Landscape Planner:

Job description

Full Time / 37 hours per week / Permanent

Play a significant role in delivering positive physical changes across the city.

Join our conservation team in the city's planning service to deliver high quality landscape and sustainable environmental design for the city.

We work collaboratively with Ecology, Development Management and Urban Design to develop landscape schemes, from single sites to large scale development.

We work with a range of different departments across the city to deliver change and create the best possible landscape; consulting with and providing advice and guidance to City Highways, Property, Housing and others on design, construction, sustainable drainage, materials and planting.

From providing planning advice on single sites and providing design solutions for problem locations, to advising on the design and implementation of hard landscape public realm, highway and housing development sites, you will be working with a range of colleagues to provide designs and innovative solutions.

From initial ideas, through to detailed design and implementation on the ground, you will be able to see projects through from beginning to end and make a difference to the city's landscape, creating a more attractive and sustainable environment.

This is a full time, permanent post working 37 hours per week Monday to Friday primarily based at City Hall however, you'll also be required to be on-site several times a week.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Team Leader Generic Planning, you'll be responsible for ensuring design projects are progressing and carry out a supervisory role, overseeing the contracts on site.

As an expert in this field, you'll provide technical advice on designs alongside guidance and support to planning officers, senior management, external stakeholders, and agencies.

You'll undertake research, prepare proposals, produce graphic materials, drawings, and sketches, and provide information about costings for each scheme.

Liaising and negotiating with highway engineers and contractors, ensuring all construction regulations are implemented and adhered to, and work is being delivered to the highest standard.

You'll regularly be on-site to have meetings regarding progress, responding to issues and making decisions on the ground.

What you'll need
Experience in implementing landscape design projects, you'll understand sustainable drainage and why it is an important part of landscape. You'll recognise the value of biodiversity; identifying that solutions need to be creative. You'll understand technical drawings and use them as a basis for your designs.

Using strong leadership and communication skills, you'll negotiate effectively with key stakeholders to ensure projects are meeting set timelines and within budget.

As a self-motivated and passionate individual, you'll command the confidence of others, to persuade and influence decision makers especially where there are competing demands.

You'll consider others' viewpoints and the cost implications of schemes, when making choices.

You'll be able to provide drawn solutions in a range of forms from sketches through to presentation drawings, and confidently present ideas to a range of audiences.

What we can offer you

As well as the satisfaction of helping to improve thousands of lives across Leicester, you can look forward to a work environment that encourages a healthy work/life balance.

You'll enjoy generous annual leave, membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme and the option of flexible working.

We'll also give you the chance to develop your skills and expertise with a variety of training and development opportunities.

In addition, you can choose from several flexible benefits, including discounts on city buses and trains. For an illustrative value of your benefits package, take a look at our benefits calculator.
