Speech and Language Therapy Assistant (SaLTA) - Meldreth Manor School
Location:
Meldreth, near Royston. Cambridgeshire/Hertfordshire border
Salary:
£22,880 - £23,816 p/a depending on skills and experience
Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours per week, 52 weeks a year
Aurora is an innovative provider of education and care for children and young people with disabilities, complex needs and ASD.
We are currently looking for a talented and passionate Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our team at Meldreth Manor School.
Meldreth Manor School and Children's Home and provide education, care and therapeutic support for children aged 6-19 years with severe and profound communication, cognitive and physical difficulties associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, brain injury and degenerative disorders. It is one of the few provisions in the country that offers this level of highly specialist support and therapeutic intervention.
Job Role:
The role is a challenging, but exciting one, and will require you to be adaptive in providing communication and feeding support according to the individual needs of the young people we support.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage a designated caseload with supervision from speech and language therapist
- Regularly review and monitor progress with speech and language therapist
- To carry out communication and feeding programmes as set by the speech and language therapist. These sessions may be individual, small groups or in a class / residential setting
- Reporting any changing communication or eating and drinking needs to the speech and language therapist
- Maintain confidential clinical records
- To contribute to initial communication and eating and drinking assessments
- To design, organise and prepare therapy activities and resources to work on therapy goals
- Contribute to the preparation and running of training for staff and families
- Organising and manage resource base including maintenance and order of equipment
- To work with the wider multidisciplinary team including education and therapy team
- General administrative duties for the speech and language therapy department

- Ability to reflect on practice and willingness to learn
- Good time management and organisational skills
- Ability to work well with others
Experience needed
- Supporting people with complex communication needs
- Working with people with dysphagia
- Working in early years, school or college settings
