An exciting position has arisen for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join a well-established, innovative and supportive team in the London Borough of Havering.

As part of NELFT (North East London Foundation Trust), you will have the opportunity to work in a flexible and agile service where staff wellbeing is actively promoted and encouraged.


This is a permanent part time position for 3 days/ week (0.6 wte) with a wide range of personal and professional opportunities.

This position for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to work within our Special Schools service. You will work closely with the pathway leads for Complex Needs and AAC.


Based in Romford with established transport links from London: We are 17 minutes by train from London Liverpool Street and 20 minutes from Stratford on the new Elizabeth Line, we also have good transport links to Essex and Kent.


Key responsibilities include:

Working autonomously as a Highly Specialist SLT within the community team. Training and support will be provided to develop knowledge and skills as required for the role.

Taking a lead role in the management of the Special Schools service in Havering.

Providing specialist intervention and support to CYP in Havering Special Schools.


Providing an effective service in Havering for children with moderate to complex communication difficulties, including those reliant on alternative methods of communication (AAC).

This includes clients with/without an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Providing an advanced standard of assessment, clinical diagnosis, treatment and management of communication difficulties in children. To evaluate outcomes of assessments and to provide advice and disseminate information.

Devising and delivering appropriate, highly specialist intervention/care plans/enhanced models of SLT for clients.


Working as part of integrated children's services alongside colleagues in Paediatrics, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and CAMHS, ensuring the delivery of joined up care plans.


Providing specialist training for other professionals within the area of communication development, SLCN, and assist in the development of skills relating to this area for colleagues including SLTs, SLTAs, SLT students, teaching assistants, SENCos and early years' staff.

Supporting the leadership of the children's speech and language service in Havering.

The Havering Speech and Language team is a fun and supportive place to work Alongside working together clinically, there are opportunities to support service development, participate in whole-team training and attend numerous social events throughout the year.

Starting with NELFT

NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust.

All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment.

As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focussing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes.

The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

Higher Cost area Supplement


This post also attracts payment for High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (with a minimum of £4,108 to a maximum of £5,177).
