Description
The successful applicant will join an existing team of consultants who together with colleagues in Manchester provide tertiary Paediatric Cardiology services for the North West and Mersey Regions (approx. 7.5 million population).

Such services are undertaken both at the Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust (Level 1 centre) and the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital part of the Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Level 2 centre), with considerable co-operation existing between the Trusts.

These working arrangements have now been formalised through a Managed Clinical Network.

The post-holder will report through the Clinical Director for Cardiac Services to the Chief Executive with professional support from the Director.

It is envisaged that this post will attract 11 programmed activities per week (9.5 PA direct clinical care and 1.5 PA supporting professional activities).

It is recognised that the 1.5 PAs for supporting professional activities will only cover the needs of the successful applicant in terms of revalidation.

With 1.5 SPAs the job will not involve research, involvement in the audit programme or teaching unless the SPAs are increased.

The successful applicant will offer a subspecialty interest in interventional cardiac catheterisation (paediatric and ACHD) and have had recent experience in the care of patients on a cardiac PICU.

The successful appointee will be based in Liverpool working across the Level 1 paediatric and adult service (located at nearby Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital).

At Alder Hey a 'Consultant of the Week' rota is in operation, where one consultant is responsible for all daytime acute referrals and inpatient care during that week (1 in 10 weekday; 1 in 10 weekend).

A separate on-call rota is provided for interventional cardiology to cover those consultants not involved in catheterisation (presently 1 in 4 basis).

The post holder would be expected to participate in the interventional on-call rota and would therefore be in receipt of the 8% on-call supplement.

As one of Europe's biggest and busiest children's hospitals, at Alder Hey Children's NHS Foundation Trust, we treat everything from common illnesses to highly complex and specialist conditions.

In addition to our main hospital site, we offer paediatric services at a number of community sites and hold local clinics across Merseyside, Cumbria, Shropshire, Wales and the Isle of Man.

We also provide specialist inpatient care for children with complex mental health needs in our recently relocated and newly opened state of the art facility.

Alder Hey has a thriving research portfolio and leads research into children's medicines, infection, inflammation and oncology. We are becoming recognised as one of the world's leaders in children's healthcare and research. We contribute to public health, lead cutting-edge research and teach the next generation of children's specialists.

Alongside this is our Innovation Hub, a dedicated space where clinicians and industries can come together to create new products and technologies.

We know that a children's hospital is different and that our job is more than just treating an illness. To us, every child is an individual.

As well as giving them the very best care, we set out to make them feel happy, safe and confident as they play, learn and grow.

At Alder Hey we are here to look after a child and their family and that includes mums, dads, brothers and sisters.
