We are currently looking for a Bank Trainee Healthcare Assistant in our Shepton Mallet Hospital.

Working as a member of the multi-disciplinary ward team providing clinical and non-clinical support, ensuring that all patients are cared for in a professional and courteous manner, supporting the ethos of the individualised patient approach.


Some of the Clinical and Administrative duties are as follows:
Supporting the Registered Nurse in the provision of basic nursing care to patients by assisting patients to maximise their independence following training and assessment of competencies, with

  • Personal Hygiene, including catheter care according to procedures
  • Diet & Fluids
  • Dressing
  • Toileting, including emptying and changing urine drainage bags according to Trust procedures
  • Mobilising, regaining independence
  • Rest & Sleep


  • Vital sign recording

  • Answering the telephone in a polite manner and refer promptly all enquiries to the relevant person
  • Assist with the departmental clerical/administrative duties, to include photocopying, transporting of equipment/ paperwork to other departments
  • Providing an efficient and effective ward reception service to patients, staff and visitors, as required by the nurse in charge and in the absence of the ward clerk.
To meet and greet all arrivals in a professional and customer/patient centred approach in line with the customer service standards of PPGHSM
About You:


As a Health Care Assistant in our Shepton Mallet Hospital you will work as part of the inpatient ward team providing a professional and patient focused clinical and administrative role under the direction of our experienced Ward Manager.


You will work with members of the multidisciplinary team to provide a safe and supportive environment for all patients, ensuring that they receive a high standard of care.

Above all, you have a natural ability to help make the lives of others more fulfilling and want to work in an environment where the work can be hard, but also fun and rewarding.


It would be an advantage if you have a NVQ level 2 in Health and Social Care, and have experience of working in a hospital environment, however this is not essential.

More importantly though is your flexibility, ability to work as part of a team and willingness to learn and develop in the role.
