WHAT TO EXPECT


This role will focus on the future development of technologies, complex systems, methods and tools including research and deployment of new knowledge into the Seat Systems Technology Road Map and subsequently Vehicle Programmes.

It will also provide an expert point of contact for complex issue management / problem resolution for on
- cycle, unit and off cycle concerns.


Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Conduct research into new technologies, systems and methods and tools using industry specific tools.
  • To provide specific solutions and technical expertise for projects, and input into the planning and deployment of specific new technologies, systems, tools that will enhance the design and development of the complete seat.
  • Offcycle research and development of new developments for process improvements, environmental and cost opportunities.
  • Support the specific development of new technologies or systems to colleagues supporting the assigned project.
  • Support the development of new features and system requirements.
  • Research concept ideas using complex modelling to work out whether new developments and innovations would work and be cost effective.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities E.g., Resolution of quality concerns and prevent recurrence activities.
  • Support other technical specialists and SMEs through knowledge sharing and mentoring approach.
  • Conduct benchmarking studies to determine best practices, industry movements and future trends.
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested.

WHAT YOU NEED

Knowledge and experience

Essential:

  • Previous experience in specialist technologies, complex systems and tools and processes
  • Analytical skills including the ability to conduct complex research into new technologies and manufacturing systems and tools
  • Process knowledge of system V engineering delivery model
  • Design delivery experience of automotive seating components.
  • Previous experience of foam design and specification
  • Previous experience of Trim material, lamination materials and heat/cooling delivery materials.
  • Trim design, sewing techniques, material utilisation
  • A good working knowledge of product creation & delivery, change control, product definition and change management processes.
  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience preferred.

Desirable:

  • Ability to effectively explain complex ideas, confidently presenting these to senior stakeholders
  • At least one full development cycle of seating delivery
  • Knowledge of systems such as DOORS/RMDV/RTC/JIRA/S-DOTS/WERS/AIMS/3DX
  • Trained/Experienced using Agile mindset and Agile planning tools such as Jira and Confluence
  • Experience in Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis (DFMEA) & Design Review Based on Failure Mode (DRBFM).
  • Ability to use CAD viewer tools such as Digibuck / Teamcenter.
  • Trained in CATIA V5/V6/3DX including working with and/or setting up kinematic models.
  • Understanding of project planning and delivery to plan.
  • Experience in seating comfort systems, climate systems, restraint systems.
  • Experience with Lectra trim development software
  • 6 sigma trained.
