Job Purpose

Working directly with the Heads of Recruitment and UK Recruitment, and where appropriate, other recruitment officers, to meet institutional targets in relation to the University's International Recruitment Strategy and agreed Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

To lead on the recruitment of increased numbers of full-time undergraduate and postgraduate international students from within the UK (UKI) and support the recruitment of home and Rest of UK (RUK) students.

To facilitate the development of partnerships / collaborations with education providers, agents and other contacts within and outwith the University.

The role will support the delivery of institutional internationalisation strategic objectives.


Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a recruitment strategy to engage with international fee-paying students currently studying in the UK including use of digital media campaigns and working with agents, schools, and colleges.
  • Represent the University at education fairs and other recruitment events, giving presentations and making offers where appropriate, and coordinate visits by other members of University of Glasgow staff, producing timely and comprehensive reports after visits.
  • Initiate and develop relationships/agreements with key education providers in the UK, including pathway providers, and UK-based English language schools.
  • Work with relevant International Recruitment Managers (IRMs) to select, train and performance manage University recruitment agents operating within the UK, ensuring the University is only working with the most reputable and best performing agents.
  • Lead the development and delivery of UKI targeted Information Events, online and at venues throughout the UK.
  • Work with colleagues across External Relations to improve information and the service provided to international applicants and to increase the uptake of offers for all levels of study by planning and implementing tailored conversion strategies.
  • Manage and control the budget for recruitment of international students in the UK.
  • To assist an IRM or the Head of UK Recruitment with their liaison responsibilities with the Colleges, deputising as appropriate.
  • Provide strategic, statistical and trend analysis in relation to market responsibilities and where necessary recommend changes to policies, such as admissions, fees and scholarships.
  • Through regular meetings, advise key staff across the University on the development of UKI recruitment strategies, and through horizon scanning inform them of new opportunities.
  • Ensure market competitiveness of the University by benchmarking against competitor Higher Education Institutions' recruitment and conversion activities and materials, participating in relevant internal and external networks as required.
  • Manage visits to the University by key partners and stakeholders in conjunction with the Heads of Recruitment and UK Recruitment.
  • Jointly support and enhance the University's Visit programme for prospective students, applicants and their influencers, on-campus and online, including the development of new tailored initiatives.
  • In conjunction with IRMs, provide information, advice and guidance to relevant nationals in the UK, supporting initiatives as and when appropriate to the UKI market, including conversion events, research, International Summer School, etc. Support the relevant IRM with the conversion of students studying at Kaplan Glasgow International College to the University, including bespoke conversion events online and in person.
  • To deputise for the Head of UK Recruitment as required and support a collaborative approach to joint working across the International and UK Recruitment teams.

Knowledge/ Qualifications

Essential

A1 Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having acquired the necessary knowledge and skills in a similar or number of different roles, or Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework level 9, (Ordinary Degree, Scottish Vocational Qualification level 4), or equivalent (including professional accreditation with relevant formal training), and experience of personal development in a similar or related role(s).

A2 Up to date knowledge of Higher Education systems.
A4 Some knowledge of broader external market environment.


Desirable:

B1 Possess an understanding of the University of Glasgow.
