An exciting opportunity for a 12 month locum Consultant in Infection & General Internal Medicine to join our existing team.

The postholder will deliver high quality infection care for the city of Liverpool, regional specialist care for the North West, and nationally recognised services in Tropical Medicine and High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID).

Our base withinLUHFThas recently moved to the New Royal Liverpool University Hospital, a state of the art hospital offering 646 single occupancy rooms including 33 specialist Tropical and Infectious Disease Unit (TIDU) beds.

We offer a comprehensive infection service including HIV, Viral Hepatitis, TB and NTM, travel and tropical medicine, neurological infections, OPAT, and holistic management of community and hospital acquired infections.

as well as supporting the hospital through acute and general medicine provision.

This role is offered as a 10PA full time NHS contract. Discussions regarding flexible working are encouraged.


Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

The Trust runs Aintree University Hospital, Broadgreen Hospital, Liverpool University Dental Hospital and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital.

Within the department Consultants are scheduled to work across the different services in a rotational basis.

Two key templates are used the present time for 1) continuing inpatient care (8A, 8B and 8D) (~60%) and 2) OPAT and Consult (~40%) and example timetables are given below.

Outpatient clinic duties continue during these scheduled weeks with timetable modifications according to individual clinic responsibility.

Within continuing inpatient care responsibility this can include up to 10 weeks working on our general medicine ward with dedicated trainees and additional support of clinical fellows, and a full time nursing team.

Depending on experience, postholders may also support our acute medical unit. Applicants are encouraged to discuss their areas of interest and experience with the Clinical Director prior to interview.
