As senior care assistant the role is to support managers in all aspects of the home's management, including taking temporary complete charge during the absence of the managers.
To help train junior members of staff in all aspects of their work in the home.To provide "on call" cover when necessary.
Principal Responsibilities
Help to ensure that all junior and domestic staff contribute to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the home and the creation of the right atmosphere.
Closely monitor residents who are confused, have mental health or physical health problems, liaise with their General Practitioner or other members of the multidisciplinary team for their treatment.
Contact family members as necessary according to the resident's wishes or needs.
When trained and assessed as competent, to order, receive and audit and administer medications for residents, according to the home's policies and procedures.
Help residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities such as incontinence; help in the use and care of aids and personal equipment.
Help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of care users through talking to them, taking them out, and sharing with them in activities such as reading, writing, hobbies and recreations.
Make and change beds; tidy rooms and do cleaning, paying close attention to infection control policies and procedures. Ensure records are completed and accurate.
Inspect, launder, mark and mend residents' clothing.
Cook meals, serve meals; assist residents at meal times; wash up utensils.
Answer emergency bells, the door and the telephone; greet visitors; pass messages on to appropriate people promptly.
Read and write reports in case notes; when trained, write and keep care plans and risk assessments updated and assist carers in their key workers role.
When trained and assessed as competent, to assess prospective new residents and provide information to them prior to their admission.
Take part in staff and residents' meetings and also in training activities as directed.
Carry out other reasonable duties as may be required or allocated to you by the managers.
Understand and ensure the implementation of the home's Health and Safety policies and procedures, including infection control, COSHH, fire and evacuation.
Maintain confidentiality, dignity, respect, privacy, and actively promote equality, diversity, inclusion and individuality for all our residents, visitors and staff.
Required:
- Genuine interest in working with the elderly in a care environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
- Be a team worker and leader.
- Willingness to continue training and vocational programmes.
- Satisfactory DBS check and Adult First list check.
Desired:
- NVQ or equivalent level 3 or above
- Minimum 3 years experience working with the elderly.
