Description

An opportunity has arisen within the Pathology Department at Lincoln County Hospital for two Biomedical Assistants, based in the Blood Sciences department.

Previous laboratory experience would be an advantage, but not essential, as full training will be given.

You will be required to have good communication and keyboard skills, along with the ability to work under pressure. Although supervised by Biomedical Scientists, once fully trained, you should be capable of working independently.

Participation in the 24hr shift service is a requirement of the post.

We are committed to personal and professional development. Training within your new post will be given if necessary. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is encouraged.

Biomedical Assistants are technical support staff within the blood science laboratory.

With suitable training they perform analyser maintenance, basic troubleshooting, some simple manual tests under supervision to ensure samples meet their turnaround times.

They will carry out audits, stock checks, stock rotation, reagent preparation and general support to the Biomedical Scientists.

We're a large organisation with three hospitals located in Scunthorpe, Grimsby and Goole. We also provide community services in North Lincolnshire and a networked pathology service to the wider Lincolnshire area. Our 6,500 members of staff care for and support a population of more than 400,000 people.

We encourage all our staff to innovate and adopt 'best practice' so we can deliver excellent care to our patients.

We ask staff to live our values; kindness, courage and respect.

We are committed to recruiting the best people to work with us. You could be one of them.

In line with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the Recruitment & Workforce team will use and hold your personal data for the intended purpose and in line with the Recruitment & Workforce Privacy Statement.

"We are committed to safeguarding the welfare of children/vulnerable adults and expect the same commitment from all staff and volunteers".

All work is performed under the supervision of a Biomedical Scientist and after appropriate training:

  • Perform the accurate analysis of samples using automated instrumentation or 'manual techniques' and be able to troubleshoot any errors or failures.
  • Daily laboratory checks, including: equipment, inventory, and temperatures.
  • The use of calibrated pipettes in sample or reagent preparation.
  • Undertake appropriate training and gain the necessary knowledge to use various laboratory software in order to: book in test requests, enter test results (where appropriate), file completed samples and monitor outstanding work.
  • Be able to communicate effectively, both with colleagues and service users, in order that you would be able to deal with enquiries and provide results.

We are committed to creating and maintaining a fair and supportive working environment and culture, where contributions are fully recognised and valued by all and staff feel empowered to carry out their duties to the best of their abilities.

As employers we are committed to promoting and protecting the physical and mental health and well-being of all our staff.

This underpins our values as set out in the NHS Constitution, supports us to be an Employer of Choice and ultimately enables our employees to support the effective care of our patients.
