Our client, a leading charity organisation within the healthcare sector are looking for a Head of Finance to join their pioneering team.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in managing the lead on the financial accounting and control strand, ensuring integrity and probity of the charity's finances and a smooth, effective year-end audit process.

They will also be responsible for overseeing financial systems development, maintenance and support for all users across the organisation.

Skills and Experience:


  • CCAB qualified
  • Experience in the charity sector at a similar level with the complexity levels of RFC
  • Experience of yearend audit, preparation of financial statements under Charity SORP, fund accounting and treasury management. (Essential)
  • To have excellent communication skills both verbally and written
  • To be willing to continue updating own knowledge and skills
  • To be selfconfident and willing to take responsibility

Role & Responsibilities:
  • Financial accounting and production of statutory and annual accounts
  • External audit overview and relationship management with external auditors
  • Maintenance of the accounting system, support for its users and systems development
  • Management of monthly accounting calendar
  • Chart of accounts management, effective and timely processing of financial transactions for the full integrity of the charity's, subsidiaries' and the group's accounts
  • Development, maintenance and updating of financial policies and procedures and oversight of the Statement of Delegated Authorities (SoDA) for the group
  • Management of the charity's funds in line with SORP, oversight of Special Purpose Funds (SPFs), and strict administration of these in line with covenants, rules and regulations
  • Ensure there are effective processes for accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Develop, maintain and manage the fixed assets register, including revaluations of assets
  • Companies House and Charity Commission filings/returns and delivery of statutory returns e.g. ONS annual surveys, HMRC surveys and returns, etc.
  • Oversight of all taxation matters for the charity, subsidiaries and the group as a whole
  • Development and management of RFC's capital expenditure programme
  • Responsible for full balance sheet management and all related controls and reconciliations
  • Strategic Finance and Treasury Management
  • Lead and manage own staff, delivering effective line management of direct reports
  • As part of the corporate management team, work across the charity with other departments on projects, and take part in corporate events and working group
  • Develop own departmental annual business plans
  • Attend subsidiary board and charity committee meetings as required
