ROLE


An exciting and sought-after opportunity has arisen for a secretary to join Sussex Police as part of a team supporting the divisional portfolio on West Sussex.

This role is key to the smooth running of the division.


You will be supporting defined stakeholders within the Command Team but work as an integral part of a secretarial team supporting the whole Command Team of eleven senior officers/managers.

You will be providing effective, efficient, proactive professional secretarial and administrative duties.


You will have excellent team-working skills and a practical, flexible, and pro-active approach, with a willingness to support and deputise for colleagues.


Self-motivated and able to work using initiative and with mínimal supervision, you will have proven experience of delivering high quality work, prioritising, and often working to tight deadlines.


You will be able to demonstrate evidence of good interpersonal communication skills, both verbal and written and excellent customer services skills, attention to detail, and a "can do" attitude are a must.


The role is based at Worthing (Durrington) and there is some flexibility for agile working, but you will be expected to be office-based in the main.

With notice you may need to travel to other locations within Sussex, for which travel expenses would be refunded.


Key Responsibilities
Skills & Experience

  • GCSE English Grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • Good verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills facilitating daily interaction with a wide variety of contacts at all levels, both within the immediate team, Sussex Police and externally.
  • Proven experience of secretarial and office experience, including strong organisational skills, MS Outlook diary management, customer service skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Good Microsoft Office skills, including knowledge of Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Accurate typing at a speed (at least 60 words per minute) to produce actions, decisions, and minutes, as required, often needing to turn these around really quickly.
  • Ability to use initiative and work with limited supervision/direct instructions to produce high quality work to tight deadlines whilst managing competing priorities.
  • Confident to appropriately handle sensitive information within GDPR legal requirements.
  • Previous secretarial experience supporting multiple stakeholders, minutetaking and coordinating travel and accommodation for stakeholders would be a distinct advantage.
