Our History:

Oxitec was formed in 2002 by Oxford University Innovation and, in 2015, was acquired by Intrexon.


Since inception, Oxitec has pioneered work on controlling insects that spread disease and damage crops through world-class genetic engineering and the use of self-limiting gene technology.

In the mid and late 2000s, Oxitec successfully deployed genetically engineered insects in select locations in the USA, Caribbean, South America, and has continued to grow these projects, expanding to new regions and countries.


In 2016, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a positive recommendation in support of Oxitec's self-limiting mosquitoes (OX513A) for a planned pilot in response to the Zika virus outbreak.

Oxitec continues to engage with communities around the world that are in need of effective, scalable solutions to combat the dangerous vectors that threaten lives and livelihoods.

Purpose of the Job:


We are seeking an exceptional Quality Professional with a strategic and innovative mindset to lead the Quality Strategy for our cutting-edge Friendly TM product portfolio in the public health and food sustainability sectors.


As Global Quality Lead, you will head Oxitec's quality department, driving compliance and performance excellence for our UK and international sites and projects.

With six direct reports and a team of 20+ quality professionals, you will be accountable for Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

You will ensure consistent performance of the Quality Management System and drive its continuous improvement.

You will ensure best-practice Quality Control testing for our established products, the Friendly TM _Aedes aegypti, _Friendly TM Fall Armyworm and Friendly TM Anopheles mosquitoes and set the Quality Strategy for new pipeline products.

In addition, you will be responsible for Biosafety and Health & Safety of our UK facilities. UK Production of Friendly TM _Aedes aegypti _will also report into you.


Responsibilities:


  • Head Oxitec's Global Quality team, being accountable for Quality Assurance, Quality Control, UK Health & Safety and Biosafety;
  • Lead UK Production of the Friendly TM _Aedes aegypti _for EUPregulated field releases in the US;
  • Ensure full regulatory compliance for the production, quality control testing, and deployment of Oxitec's Friendly TM _Aedes aegypti _, Friendly TM Fall Armyworm and Friendly TM Anopheles mosquitoes at international sites and projects;
  • Work closely with the CTO to set the Quality Strategy for new pipeline products;
  • Support R&D teams from a quality perspective, including review and approval of regulatory studies and ensuring GLP compliance, where applicable;
  • Execute critical quality activities such as writing validation plans and reports, leading critical nonconformances, and corrective and preventive actions;
  • Perform internal audits in the UK and at Oxitec sites worldwide, and drive the implementation of improvement actions (this will involve international travel);
  • Host and pass external audits with APHA and HSE as required;
  • Drive performance excellence for the Quality Management system, and the implementation of best practice quality standards;
  • Trend and report quality performance in dashboards and routine management meetings.
