Lead Research and Development Engineer

£40,000 - £45,000 per annum

We have partnered with on of UK's most innovative sustainable companies, who are developing a new composite material to full industrial scale and solve key problems in high-tech manufacturing industry related to cost, productivity, and sustainability ofcarbon fibre composites.


For this position we are looking for someone who has previous experience in developing and improving material processing solutions and equipment.


Responsibilities:


  • Proactively plan and lead R&D activities, setting realistic timelines and budgets.
  • Identify, setup and perform fundamental process research on various topics including solidliquid dispersion optimisation, material separation, filtration improvements and chemical additives for product enhancement.
  • Liaising internally as Lead R&D Engineer with the wider engineering team, and externally with equipment suppliers.
  • Closely collaborate with CTO as well as Director of Engineering to continuously look at best practises and increase overall operational efficiency of the team to speed up production upscaling activities.

Requirements:


  • A relevant MSc degree or above, ideally in engineering or science
  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in an engineering field working on selecting, designing and implementing (composite) processing equipment.
  • Good indepth knowledge on composite material handling and able to demonstrate a strong understanding of multidisciplinary aspects of process engineering (mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to explain and document existing practices and propose alternatives
  • Previous experience working with CAD packages and other engineering software is a bonus
