The role


The role could see you working as a mechanical designer in a large project team, or being a project engineer on smaller schemes.

You will be working on some of the most technically challenging projects in our portfolio - recent examples include: NOMA 4 Angel Square, BASE Building at Manchester Science Park, the School of Digital Arts at Manchester Met Uni, Space Studios and the new Everton FC stadium at Bramley Moore Dock in Liverpool.


Key Duties:


This role will see you technically and creatively challenged on some of the most interesting developments in the Northwest and further afield.

Teamwork and a collaborative approach are key to any project at Buro Happold, so your strong communication skills and passion to succeed with others will serve you well.

This key role will have a variety of day-to-day responsibilities including:

  • Lead the mechanical team and take a project leadership role as required.
  • Communicating directly with Clients, offering innovative design solutions and managing expectations. Further developing relationships with existing and new clients including contractors, architects and developers.
  • Preparing technical and financial proposals for new work.
  • Managing workload of engineers and technicians
  • Preparing Technical Specifications.
  • Monitor financial performance of jobs as well as setting up and managing job/project administrative systems, including planning and monitoring job resourcing/expenditure.

Your Skills and Experience
As a talented building services engineer, it is expected that you would be able to demonstrate...

  • Extensive mechanical design experience in an MEP consultancy, with experience acting as project leader.
  • Diverse sector experience, ideally with large scale project experience.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills, able to develop relationships with clients, architects and other team members.
  • Bachelors or master's degree in engineering
  • Professionally registered with a relevant institution; e.g. CIBSE, IMechE, etc.
  • Although mechanically biased it is expected that you will have a good understanding of other design disciplines.
  • Strong understanding of energy performance of buildings, include the use of software such as IES for analysis
  • Proficiency in the use of Revit would be preferable, however a willingness to undertake training is essential
