Who are we?
We are three, well established, GP practices working across seven sites in and around North Shields, Tynemouth and Wallsend. We are a friendly, well organised and social group of surgeries, with an ever-growing patient list. We currently comprise of 21 Partners, employ around 160 people and deliver care to nearly 50,000 patients.


The Chief Operating Officer is a new role created to focus on bringing together the three practices in a much closer working arrangements, starting with a shared management structure with scope for tighter links over the next 2-5 years.


This is a rare opportunity to guide and support the practices through their journey of developing ever-closer and shared working links, leadership and structures in order to deliver the very best care for our patients.


The role
Reporting to the Executive Partners, the COO will provide outstanding leadership and effective operational delivery to the practices.

Providing Board level strategic guidance and fully costed planning, the COO will be fundamental to the future development of services, people skills and the creation of successful new models of care.


Most importantly, you will be someone who can think differently and help us further transform the way we deliver care in our community and allow our practices to grow and improve.


Main responsibilities include:

  • Managing the daily business, administrative operations and staffing structures of all sites and improving operating procedures for optimal efficiency
  • Assessing and enhancing the efficiency of internal and external operational processes and recommending considered, logical changes
  • Leading and motivating a broad range of people, often with differing priorities, to achieve targets and objectives and thereby realising and optimising their full potential
  • Establishing policies that improve and promote the organisation's vision and culture
  • Embedding the group's vision, values and principles both internally and externally
  • Evaluating the organisation's performance and recommending strategies to improve results
  • Collaborating with management and other stakeholders to raise capital and carry out other businessexpanding strategies
  • Maximising opportunities for service development and new models of care
  • Encouraging new thinking, including the use of digital and other technologies
  • Building the organisation's reputation for high quality patient care, being a good employer and being the organisation others want to partner with
  • Promoting a culture of innovation.

What are we looking for?

  • You will already be working in a senior operational role
  • While NHS and social care is desirable it is not essential we are very interested in talking to people who have transferable skills gained in other sectors/industries
  • Demonstrable track record of outstanding leadership and communication skills
  • Ability to influence and negotiate at all levels
  • A collaborative and supportive leadership style
  • An excellent record of developing strong and successful relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience of managing complex and unpredictable change whilst improving outcomes
  • Track record of developing and managing a team or organisation with evidence of embedding culture and values, promoting team engagement and delivering improved service
  • Previous experience of risk, audit and quality management
  • Proven understanding of budgets and financial management
  • Strong analytical skills, coupled with the ability to think creatively
