Job Role Profile -Retail Team Leader


The Retail Team Leaders role is to take ownership of the upkeep, look and feel of the Cult of Machine shop as guided by the Head of Retail.

The retail team provide customer profiling reports and customer feedback to the Head of Retail, and work with them to develop the upcoming seasonal choices and maximise the Cult of Machine shops sales potential.

While the Management provide the product in its entirety to the shop floor, it is the retail team who deliver sales and up-sell other products to our customers.

The retail team project our product line to the customer and are the main link between the business and our customers.

This role provides the individual with the opportunity to develop both buying and merchandising knowledge, widen opportunities and grow a deeper awareness of the back-office management of the business.

The responsibilities of the Retail Team Leader will vary within the needs and requirements of the Cult of Machine shop.

However, all deliverables will be discussed with the retail team in an appropriate time scale and expectation.

Your main responsibilities are outlined below:

  • Consistently providing exceptional customer service to every customer or visitor to the Cult of Machine shop and actively training the retail team to deliver the same service.
  • Understanding the Cult of Machine shop business goals and targets
  • Managing the endtoend process of sales and retail management; from the initial meeting with the customer and processing of the sale, to analysing the sales figures and customer feedback in conjunction with the Cult of Machine management
  • Managing stock levels and working with the Cult of Machine management to make key decisions about stock control and its functionality
  • Monitoring stock levels and feeding back to the Head of Retail when products need reordering.
  • Monitoring sales on an ongoing basis in accordance with set retail targets and communicating this with the retail team.
  • Analysing and interpreting trends and customer profiling to present to the Cult of Machine management.
  • Ensuring standards for quality, customer service and health and safety are met
  • Responding to customer complaints and queries in a professional and timely manner, through all channels.
  • Delivering special promotions, displays and events in conjunction with Head of Retail
  • Updating the retail team on business and sales performance, new initiatives and other pertinent issues
  • Touring the sales floor regularly, talking to colleagues and customers and identifying or resolving issues. Ensuring all product is displayed appropriately, tagged with labels and prices.
  • Ensuring the shop floor is kept clean, tidy and always ready for customers
  • Ensuring the end of day hand over is sent on to the wider Emporium team keeping the team in the loop
  • Maintaining awareness of market trends in the retail industry; understanding forthcoming customer initiatives and monitoring what competitors are doing
  • Initiating changes to improve the business, e.g. suggest revised opening hours suggestions to ensure the Cult of Machine shop maximises its potential
  • Treat Company and employee information in the strictest confidence. No confidential information should be shared with anyone outside of the company, including following your departure from the company. No confidential information should be shared with anyone inside the company unless it is with the Directors of the company, your immediate manager, or the person in question

Stock and Financial Control

  • To follow all till and cashing up procedures and ensure all staff are following these correctly
  • Thoroughly check deliveries for accuracy and quality of product
  • Ensure stock is received and secured in the stock room upon delivery; report any nondelivery or incorrect products received
  • Ensure stock room remains tidy and well organised at all times
  • Record any wastage appropriately
  • Regular and accurate stock takes are conducted

Recruitment and Development

  • Assist in the induction of new staff members as required
  • Identify your development areas and work with HR and you manager to improve these areas
  • Assist in the mentorship and training of staff

Health and Safety

  • Ensure high standards of health and safety are maintained at all times
  • Complete required cleaning tasks in accordance with the daily and weekly task sheets, ensuring the work has been completed to a high standard
  • Ensure the storage areas are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition
  • Report for work on time and in clean and correct uniform
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and ensure a high standard of personal hygiene
