Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant

About the Role:

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will be an integral part of a dedicated team, working closely with students who have special educational needs.

Your role will involve providing individualised support and assistance, both in and outside the classroom, to ensure that each student can reach their full potential.

You will work collaboratively with teachers and other professionals, implementing tailored strategies and promoting an inclusive learning environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Provide oneonone support to students with special educational needs, adapting teaching methods and materials to suit their individual needs.
  • Assist with planning and delivering lessons, ensuring that students are engaged and motivated to learn.
  • Monitor students' progress and provide regular feedback to teachers and parents/guardians.
  • Help create and maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with teachers, educational psychologists, and other professionals to develop and implement individual education plans (IEPs).
  • Assist with personal care tasks, such as feeding, toileting, and mobility support, as required.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, promoting their emotional wellbeing and social development.

Requirements:


  • Previous experience working as a SEN Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students with special educational needs.
  • Strong knowledge of various learning difficulties, such as autism, dyslexia, ADHD, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding when working with students who may display challenging behaviours.
  • Ability to adapt and be flexible in a dynamic educational environment.
  • Relevant qualifications, such as a Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent, would be desirable but not essential.
