NHS Highland oversees a variety of facilities, including a big district general hospital, three rural general hospitals, a psychiatric hospital, and several community hospitals.

The successful midwife will be part of a multi-disciplinary team that will provide antenatal, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care as specified by the individual woman and baby.

The midwife will also be responsible for the daily care of a set number of women and/or babies as part of a team.

What requirements will you need to succeed in this role as a Registered Midwife?:

  • Educated to degree level/ have a valid registration
  • If dual registrant, a minimum of four years practising only as a midwife in such country is required
  • Providing a highquality service while dealing with a fluctuating workload
  • Coping with tough coworkers, women, and/or family members
  • The ability to adapt to working in various areas of midwifery

Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Administer intramuscular and intravenous medicines
  • Conduct abdominal exams
  • Perform vaginal exams and induce labour
  • Assess wounds and remove sutures, clips, drains, or staples, as well as dressings
  • Assessing the perineum after vaginal birth, accurately determining the severity of any perineal damage, and initiating appropriate treatment, including perineum suturing
  • Assisting women with personal hygiene
  • Assisting colleagues in the workplace during difficult and stressful times
