£ 20,50- pay award pending

**Contract - Term time - annualised

  • 38 weeks**
    Hours Monday to Friday 8.15am to 3.55pm (40 minute lunch each day)

Core Purpose

  • To provide high quality academic mentoring to English students within Archbishop Beck Catholic College and to monitor and evaluate its impact.
  • To assist with the reading programme
  • To develop and implement strategies which contribute towards effective learning, behaviour and achievement.
  • To contribute to a healthy, safe, happy and challenging environment in which students work hard, free of disruption, develop mutual respect for each other, grow in maturity and achieve their potential.
  • To support the safeguarding and welfare of students in line with the College's policies and practices.
  • To inspire, challenge and motivate students.
Accountabilities

The post-holder is directly responsible to: The Head of English.

Particular Responsibilities

  • To ensure that students receive an education appropriate to their needs by removing barriers to learning and developing effective learning behaviours.
  • To develop and deliver appropriate intervention strategies, working with the department, to ensure that students make rapid and sustained progress.
  • To develop strategies that raise student achievement, particularly our lower attaining students, through tutorial/academic mentoring.
  • To work closely with the department to ensure that the needs of Higher Achieving Pupils and those with other special educational needs are met, this will also include academic literacy and numeracy support.
  • To monitor and report on the implementation of all plans drawn up to remove barriers for effective learning and transition to lifelong learning and the world of work for all our students.
  • To contribute to discussions and in meetings.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Degree or equivalent. (E)

At least two years' experience of working effectively with young people (D)

An understanding of learning behaviour, including young people with SEN and disability. (D)

Able to develop a good rapport with students. (E)

Excellent organisation and administrative skills, including excellent oral and written communication skills (E).

Able to support in the development of Academic Mentoring and contribute to assemblies. (E)

Able to work effectively as part of a team. (E)

Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. (E)

Able to work as part of a team but also independently. (E)


Able to use IT packages, Microsoft, Excel and Word and able to retrieve information from a variety of sources including the internet.

Able to demonstrate initiative, enthusiasm and drive Knowledge & Experience. (E)

Professional qualification relating to support for young people e.g. teaching, guidance, social work. (D)
