As Legal Officer (Property) you will provide straightforward and (relative to the complexity within the department) legal advice and representation to United Utilities Water Limited in relation to property and land transaction matters to ensure that our business operates within the legal and regulatory framework and that our business' commercial interests are protected.


You will also deliver the straight forward property and land transaction matters undertaken by United Utilities Water Limited and other parts of the UU Group.


Job Accountabilities:


  • Support and assist the Senior Property Lawyer (Property),and Property Lawyer to deliver (end to end) on all adoption, connection, build over agreements mostly precedent based work but with professional knowledge behind to support changes of approach (on every document)
  • Support and assist the Assistant Legal Officers within the Property Team in connection with their role as and when necessary
  • No leadership or supervisory responsibilities
  • Extensive liaison with developers, customers and advisors

Assist the Senior Property Lawyer (Property) to:

  • Ensure that accurate and timely legal advice is provided for non-contentious property and land transaction matters;
  • Deliver all property and land transactions to ensure that they are carried out in a timely, efficient and cost effective manner and on the best possible provisions to our business;
  • Ensure all areas of our business are aware of the requirements of the law relevant to their activities in relation to property and land transaction matters;
  • Review (in consultation with relevant managers) policies, procedures and documentation adopted and used in our business to ensure compliance with legal duties and responsibilities and to ensure protection of company assets in relation to property and land transaction matters
  • Other Propertyrelated Legal work as requested

Knowledge and Skills:


  • CILEX qualified (Chartered Institute of Legal Executives) or, where not yet obtained, working towards obtaining such qualification or holds such other suitable legal qualification or working towards
  • Demonstrable experience in dealing with Property matters either in a Law Firm or In-House Legal team or equivalent.
  • Reasonable IT skills
  • Understanding of relevant legal processes and governance
  • Experience working in a Property Legal environment and/or have some experience of dealing with property related cases
  • Good personal management and interpersonal skills, the ability to work under pressure and/or to tight deadlines and to good levels of written and oral communication.
  • An awareness of our business culture, custom and practice, together with the ability to be diplomatic is essential.
