This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, passionate Head of Year, to join a forward-thinking and innovative team.


We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, resourceful and strategic Head of Year who has the ability to lead from the front, develop leadership in others and effect rapid and sustainable change in raising the standards of student attainment and personal development.


The key responsibility is to oversee the academic progress and personal development of approximately 270 students; to identify and rectify any underachievement and broker individually tailored learning programmes where appropriate.

You will be an outstanding teacher who can inspire others to create outstanding learning opportunities for our students.

You will lead on and have overall responsibility for a year group including supporting student welfare and the "Gable Way" and pupil safeguarding throughout the school.


You will work closely with the Head of Key Stage to help build the commitment of all stake-holders to a culture of constant improvement, with the vision to embrace the ideas of creative leadership that will put learning first and ensure an outstanding education for our students.

You will also participate in regular self-review and monitoring to ensure continuous improvement in all aspects of the work at Gable Hall.


Main Areas of Responsibility:


  • To provide professional leadership for a Year Group, which secures success and continuous improvement in teaching and learning, ensures a highquality education and school experience for all learners.
  • To ensure the highest standards of achievement for all learners creating a productive, disciplined learning environment the daytoday operation of the Year Group.
  • To ensure a positive ethos which reflects the HoY's commitment to high achievement, effective teaching and learning and good relationships.
  • To ensure the life of the Year Group and the curriculum effectively promote students' moral, social and cultural development and prepare them for adult life.
  • To ensure high expectations for their students are set and maintained.


The Head of Year also secures the commitment of the wider school community, all teachers, support staff and parents by developing effective networks based on communication and high-quality leadership.


  • QTS (or equivalent) and a good undergraduate degree
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience
  • Proven success in raising achievement across at least two key stages
  • Evidence of leading, supporting and managing others, both individuals and teams, ensuring high quality performance
  • High level of ICT skills and experience of how new technologies can be used to raise achievement
