Our people are at the heart of our business, and we are looking for an exceptional Senior Payroll and People Advisor to join our passionate People team.

We have an ambitious roadmap, and our Senior Payroll and People Advisor's position is a key enabler in achieving our strategic objectives.


You will be acting as the first point of contact for all team members on all HR functions including recruitment, performance management, employee relations, payroll and benefits.


Working in close partnership with the Group Director of People and Performance, you will be working on some exciting projects as well as identify ways to innovatively attract, develop and retain our teams, fostering engagement and wellbeing, alongside accurately completing monthly payroll submission to the external payroll provider.


Main Responsibilities

Monthly Payroll and HR Administration
Responsible for undertaking the administration related to all Payroll and HR processes, in particular:

  • Data entry of any new starters, monthly changers, leavers, timesheets and expenses using payroll systems (ADP) on the monthly basis, in line with the agreed deadline
  • Liaise with the third party on a regular basis for monthly payroll reports and manage the relationship fully.
  • Responsible for maintenance and compliance of both HR and Payroll systems
  • Responsible for employment reference checks as part of onboarding and making sure the all the references are completed by the other team members
  • Ensure a clear starters/leavers process being compliant with the UK regulations in terms of employment, in line with BSC safeguarding policies and procedures.
  • Enhanced DBS checks for all new starters and managing the DBS account with the third party
  • First point of contact for team members and managers for payroll queries with the organisation
  • Responsible for managing any inspections and making sure the safeguarding procedures have been met internally

Recruitment and Onboarding

  • Proactively support and actively recruit across BSC entities
- from advertising job roles to selection, drafting contracts and offer letters

  • Drive projects for funded development courses such as apprenticeship levy and manage the relationship with third parties
  • Proactively build relationship with universities and colleges across the UK to support with upcoming job fairs and other employment events
  • Support the with line management of the team in the coordination and management of other recruitment processes and campaigns
  • Proactively managing the HR, Payroll and Recruitment inboxes and making sure all the queries being dealt with within the deadline by the team members

Learning and Development

  • Support in developing training and leading any people related trainings across the business
  • Working closely with line managers to identify any training gaps and implement a process
  • Utilising the current HR and Payroll systems and making sure the training section of the systems have been fully updated
  • Providing ongoing training to line managers on employee relations, payroll and recruitment as part of their onboarding

Employee Relations

  • Conduct investigations, attend disciplinaries and grievances, taking minutes as required
  • Managing end to end employee relation cases
  • Managing sickness absences records and proactively managing any cases in line with BSC sickness absence policy
  • Providing advice and proactive recommendations to managers on employment matters and working with them to resolve issues
  • Provide advice and guidance on BSC policies, procedures and current legislation
  • Working closely with managers to develop their capability and confidence when dealing with people issues
  • Supporting the wider HR team in the delivery of key projects and initiatives, in line with wider company's strategy

Reporting and Engagement

  • Complete monthly HR reports (turnover, headcount, recruitment & engagement)
  • Utilise HR and Payroll systems to analyse data and provide insights that inform business and people decisions.
  • Managing monthly awards nominations and benefit platform (Perkbox)
  • Create and maintain a positive team culture in line with BSC values, by actively encouraging involvement from all the team members and increase engagement across the company

Skills and experience required (essential):


  • Previous experience working within an HR Advisory and Payroll
  • Good knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Exposure to fastpaced environment
  • Previous experience analysing and interpreting data, through use of Excel and payroll system
  • Confident navigating payroll/HR Information Systems
  • Excellent use
