Description

This role will be primarily based in the Youth Offending Service and will involve supporting young people to attend a variety of reparation projects in the community.

It will be important to build effective and supportive relationships with children and young people, their families/carers and partners agencies.

Islington Youth Offending Service aims to prevent crime and the fear of crime by ensuring that services are targeted at children and young people in the criminal justice system, while ensuring the needs of victims and our communities are taken into account in all that we do.

Our reparation projects play an important role in making amends for the harm caused by offending, and this role will be key in supporting these activities.


  • To assist in the delivery of a range of opportunities for children and young people that supports their educational, social, and personal development, and raises their aspirations.
  • Working within the policies of the council, especially those concerned with equal opportunities, diversity, safeguarding, and health and safety.
  • Carrying out administrative duties and collecting relevant management information in accordance with young person's division procedures.
  • Meeting any other requirements of the service and project as required by the line manager.
Specific responsibilities


Registered staff will be responsible for:

  • Delivery of agreed activities/areas of work as directed by the line manager that are appropriate to the setting and are well planned/delivered.
  • Ensuring that all evidence of work is properly documented and where applicable work contributes to recorded and accredited outcomes for young people.
  • Keeping informed of current legislation, national and local issues, and the implementation in daily work practice.
  • Ensuring you operate within professional boundaries when developing and maintaining relationships with children and young people.
  • Ensuring that all areas of your work are carried out within the framework of the council's Equal Opportunities and Dignity for All policies.
  • Where required, to work in partnership with other agencies in the delivery of joint work programmes.
  • To promote the range of opportunities for children and young people available through Children's Services.
  • To encourage the participation of children and young people in activities by creating an environment that counters discrimination and encourages inclusion and consultation through coproduced delivery.
  • To seek the views and ideas of children and young people on the delivery and design of the services they use.
  • Understand and implement health and safety requirements within all activities, which the post holder undertakes, reporting and recording all matters of concern as appropriate.
  • Forming and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with children, young people, staff, volunteers, and parents.
  • Contribute to the evaluation of work in written or electronic formats.
  • Deliver work in accordance with the council's commitment to high quality service provision to the consumer, ensuring that services are delivered to the 'Young People's Services Values and Standards'.
  • Attend any reviews or supervision as required by the line manager.
  • To carry out such other minor and/or nonrecurring duties appropriate to the post as may be directed.

Additional:


  • To achieve objectives as agreed by your line manager
  • To undertake training and constructively take part in meetings, supervision, seminars, and other events, designed to improve communication and assist with the effective development of the post and post holder.
  • Ensure that duties are undertaken with due regard and compliance with the Data Protection Act and other legislation.
  • To ensure young people feel safe and are safeguarded by ensuring pan London and local safeguarding policies and procedures are adhered to.
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities in accordance with the council's health and safety policy, and relevant health and safety legislation.
  • At all times, carry out responsibilities/duties within the framework of the council's Dignity for All Policy (equal opportunities policy).
