We have an exciting opportunity for an International Trade Specialist to join the Science and Technology team at Scottish Development International (SDI), the international arm of Scottish Enterprise.
We're looking for a Specialist to work closely with key companies, large and small, to develop their international trade and export ambitions and contribute to the growth of the sector.
The role:
Reporting to a Team Leader, you'll join a team of experienced trade specialists who are responsible for driving trade support and trade development for the technology sector in Scotland.
Engaging with key external organisations, including Business Gateway, Chambers, Councils and sectoral trade organisations, you'll help develop Scotland's ambitions around international trade.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing specialist international trade support to new and experienced exporters in Scotland through face to face and virtual meetings
- Working with SDI global teams to identify and develop more trade development opportunities engaging Scottish companies in the overseas opportunities to drive exports and trade activity
- Using a variety of research methods to explore, quantify, and validate emerging and future trade development opportunities in the Science and Technology sectors
- Supporting delivery of SDI domestic and international events as required, including attending networking events
Who we're looking for:
We're looking to recruit an enthusiastic individual who will be proactive in driving company engagement and find creative ways to support individual companies' trade ambitions.
With a sound understanding of international trade, you'll build a deeper understanding of companies to help grow their presence in key overseas markets.
Your skills, abilities and experience should include:
- Experience working with businesses to expand internationally, especially in relation to trading internationally
- Experience providing business development support to businesses
- Demonstrable experience working with smalltomidsized enterprises (SMEs), with evidence of success through earlytodeeper engagement and ability to measure performance
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team with a flexible approach
- A clear understanding of broad economic development issues
Ideally, but not essentially, you'll also have:
- A degree in economic development, science, technology and engineering, the creative industries, or another related area
- An Institute of Export qualification (Advanced Certificate in International Trade-ACIT) or defined equivalent from industry experience if you don't have one, you'll be committed to gaining a suitable qualification
