Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer

Location:
Saffron Walden, Essex


Salary Guide:
£50,000 - £60,000 pa


This exciting and diverse role involves developing our range of market leading chemistry equipment and supporting the continuous improvement of existing products.

You will be working in our R&D team to develop, launch and support innovative new chemistryproducts, and you will be reporting to the R&D Manager.


Electro-Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities include:

Using SolidWorks 3D CAD and SolidWorks PDM


Mechanical design - Designing products at component and system level including components, assemblies, jigs, product finish, material identification, manufacturing processes, etc.

Electro-mechanical design - Designing electro-mechanical components, assemblies, and products

Managing and delivering individual R&D NPD projects, including: - Designing products and creating innovative solutions to meet customer needs. Identification, evaluation, and integration of electronic components, including power supplies, PCBs, motors, fittings,connectors, sensors, firmware, etc. Sourcing (materials, suppliers, sub-contractors). Consultation (working with colleagues, consultants, and partners). Testing (establishing test protocols, collecting, and analysing results, reporting). Planning and costing(project plans, time-lines, resourcing, budgeting, KPIs). Reporting (presenting updates and progress reports). Supporting the transition of R&D projects into production, including production packs, QA test procedures, marketing material, user instructions,etc.


Managing and delivering product improvement projects (proactive and reactive Continuous Improvement) - Electro-mechanical and mechanical design upgrades at component and system level.

Quick and efficient product engineering solutions to minimise assemblydowntime. Risk analysis and mitigation of component and supplier bottlenecks. Preparation and updating of documentation.


Skills / Experience Required:


  • A degree in electromechanical engineering or closely related field
  • Significant working experience in an industrial or R&D environment with a track record of delivering projects on time and to budget
  • Continuous Improvement / product life cycle management in an engineering environment
  • Design experience including electronic system components (e.g., motors, PCBs, etc.), EMC design techniques and solutions, and Failure Mode Effects Analysis
  • Knowledge of electronics circuit design and implementation within measurement and control devices
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials (e.g., machining, moulding, sheet metal, coatings)
  • Excellent knowledge of 3D SolidWorks
  • Experience sourcing materials from suppliers
  • Latephase product development and debugging experience
