Working in a dynamic FMCG manufacturing environment, this 15 month maternity Chemical Buying position (hybrid) is to provide support to the Purchasing Manager and manage independently the purchase of chemicals into the business.
Although focused on chemicals, you may be called upon to support the purchasing activities of other categories including non wovens, printed flexible packaging, corrugate, thermoform trays, injection moulded plastics.
Reporting to Purchasing Manager this role is responsible for strategic procurement of chemical purchases for all the businesses manufacturing sites.
Responsibilities:
Liaise with internal customers and stake holders, across all sites and functions, in a professional manner and to build robust relationships to ensure the satisfactory completion of all tasks assigned
Developing robust and professional relationships with external suppliers and customers
Strategic sourcing of key raw materials as assigned
Negotiation of cost, terms and conditions, implementation of contracts and setting up of confidentiality and supply agreements
Close interaction between all departments and stakeholders across all sites to ensure successful new product introduction.
Comprehensive analysis on spend, business split, supplier performance and regular reporting with detail
Strategic management of external partners
Being able to manage effectively a broad range of suppliers, domestically, European and also globally, across a diverse range of materials
To be pro active in reducing occurrences of supply chain disruptions and to react and implement effective resolution of both short and long term issues
Able to manage suppliers effectively
Take own initiative in dealing with problems as they arise
Demonstrate a commitment to the highest standards of Health, Safety and Environment performance by my own actions
Perform tasks, and operate / use equipment/machinery only to the level of their training and competence
Direct management of Chemical Planner
Skills Required:
Must have at least 2 years similar Chemical Buying experience
Previous experience of purchasing chemicals is essential
Knowledge of fmcg/consumer goods/healthcare sectors - desirable
Able to organise time and workload effectively
Proficient in the use of Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Word along with a relevant MRP package
All work prepared is to be accurate and completed in a timely manner
Flexible - to provide additional cover in time of sickness, holiday and extreme workload.
Knowledge of purchasing practices i.e. effective sourcing techniques, cost and contract negotiation and Incoterms
Ideally MCIPS qualified or working towards final qualification (desirable)
Able to commit to 15 month maternity contract - Start April time
£Competitive Salary Package - depending on experience
Business Performance Bonus up to 10%
Holidays - 23 days plus bank holidays
Hours - 8am - 4pm or 9am - 5pm, hybrid working after initial months induction (3 days in office including Wednesday and Thursday and 2 days at home)
