Description
There has been a £2.3bn investment in mental health which has been identified in the Long Term Plan. This additional investment will support further service developments for perinatal mental health.

This is set out in detail in the Mental Health Implementation Plan, and includes:

  • Increasing the availability of specialist PMH community care for women who need ongoing support from 12 months after birth to 24 months
  • Improving access to evidencebased psychological therapies for women and their partners
  • Mental health checks for partners of those accessing specialist PMH community services and signposting to support as required
We are therefore delighted to be able to advertise an Operational Team Lead post for the Perinatal Mental Health Community Service


We are seeking an experienced registered practitioner (Mental Health Nurse or Occupational Therapist) to manage and provide clinical leadership to the West Kent Team.

The team are based in Maidstone and cover the locality of Maidstone and South West Kent

In order to be considered for this post you will need to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum of 3 years posts registration experience in Mental Health
  • A registered practitioner, either Occupational Therapist or Mental Health Nurse
  • Previous management experience
  • Advanced supervisory and appraisal skills
  • Advanced clinical experience and knowledge
  • Experience of liaising with a variety of stakeholders
  • Planning and decision making skills
  • Good knowledge of clinical governance and how you can contribute towards this
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Leadership skills ability to guide and motivate others in clinical aspects and through periods of change
  • Example of contribution to service development.

The purpose of the job is to provide operational management, leadership and expertise to a multi professional specialist perinatal mental health team.

Ensuring timely delivery of a safe and effective service to the locality of West Kent, for women aged 18 and over and, their families who are experiencing significant perinatal mental health difficulties.

To ensure systems and processes exist to support staff performance in accordance with Trust objectives

To report on and contribute to the monitoring, evaluation and audit of the performance and clinical practice of the locality service

To liaise with and work collaboratively with other Care Groups to promote the interface between the Perinatal Mental Health Community Service (PMHCS), Adult Acute and Community Mental Health services to enhance the patient experience and recovery

To work in close collaboration with the Mother & Baby Unit
