An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Oral Health Improvement Practitioner to join the Designed to Smile Team in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.

The post holder will be based in Glanrhyd Hospital.


The post holder is required to have:

  • Extended Duties qualification in Fluoride Varnish Application.
  • Knowledge of the Welsh Health Circular Number 23: Refocussing of the Designed to Smile child oral health improvement programme
  • Knowledge of the role of the Community Dental Service.
  • Hold a National Oral Health Promotion certificate and/or equivalent teaching qualification/ Equivalent knowledge and experience.
  • Experience with working with people from a diverse range of backgrounds, other health professionals as well as outside agencies.
  • Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, with excellent interpersonal skills.


You will deliver all elements of the Designed to Smile programme and have a flexible approach as you will be required to cover all localities in Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.

Driving license is essential as you will be required to drive Health Board vehicles.

  • The post holder will work within the UHB policies and procedures to provide comprehensive oral health promotion training for a range of education and healthcare professionals and community groups and individuals across Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB.
  • To contribute to and advise on the development and implementation of oral/public health improvement programmes and support structures.
  • The role will include working autonomously to deliver the WHC Number 23 Refocusing of the Designed to Smile child oral health improvement programme.
  • The post holder will be expected to collect data, evaluations and Oral Health outcomes.
  • Individuals working in Oral Health Promotion will need to demonstrate competence in areas of specialist knowledge, quality improvement, education, presentation, organisation and resource use and management.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
