Title:
Transport Manager


Reporting to:
Depot Manager (DM)


Responsible for:
Depot Transport Operations


Objectives of the job:

Managing the day to day running of the transport operation.

To monitor and optimise the quality, cost and efficiency of the movement of finished goods

Responsible for the line management of the transportation staff

Ensuring that all delivery requirements for the depot are successfully met


Main Duties:


  • Ensuring depot maintains legal compliance for all transport operations
  • Maintaining the condition of the delivery vehicles and equipment
  • Ensuring necessary repairs are made in a timely fashion
  • Ensuring accurate maintainance of records for vehicle service/repairs.
  • Engagement and review with suppliers to ensure continuity of service for transport operations.
  • Responsible for the line management of the transportation staff
  • Responsible for monitoring tachograph records
  • Analysis of data to monitor performance and plan improvements.
  • Implementing and Enforcing health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Overseeing the recruitment of new staff, including interviews, training and inductions.
  • Ensuring adequate staff levels to cover for absences and peaks in workload.
  • Delegating work to staff and managing their workload and output.
  • Promoting staff development, training and disciplinary matters.
  • Administration of holiday requests and absence monitoring.
  • Coordinating and controlling the daily delivery schedule
  • Ensuring service levels are communicated and maintained throughout team
  • Regular review and update where necessary of service charter

Additional Duties:


  • Support the whole depot management team to ensure delivery of depot targets.

Key Skills:

Use of Microsoft Office eg.
Excel for spreadsheets and records

Full use of 'Trinity' system and Cyberquery

Good team work skills

Good Management and communication skills

Good specialist knowledge of the drinks industry and warehousing policies and procedures
