JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE POST OF TRAVEL TRAINING CO-ORDINATOR
Rochdale
Main purpose of the Job:
To co-ordinate and manage the travel training project based in Rochdale schools/colleges/alternative education provision.
Enable young people, identified as having additional needs, to learn how to travel independently and safely to and from school/College, etc.
Key Areas of responsibility
1. Organisation of Travel Training Project
Responsibility for planning and implementing individual training programmes for young people with disabilities including;
- To work in Partnership with Local Authorities and identified Schools.
- To use Pure Innovations Assessment Tool to assess each student's travelling skills and evaluate their learning.
- To create a personcentred training programme for each student. This may include developing accessible resources for working with each student based on their individual needs e.g use of photographs, worksheets.
- To manage the risk associated with individual travel training programmes effectively, including writing, monitoring and reviewing risk assessments.
- To meet regularly with families and school/college staff to review the progress of each individual.
- To support parents and carers including as a minimum; attending all initial and final meetings.
- To devise and present workshops for groups of young people on various aspects of travel training e.g. keeping safe in the community.
- Attend various forums/meetings in order to promote the Travel Training Project and increase referrals.
- To promote the project with parents, professionals and young people.
- Work alongside Assistant Travel Training Contracts Manager / Senior Travel Training Coordinator to plan and prioritise team and individual activities towards achieving travel training key performance indicators and agreed business aims.
2. Staff Management
Responsibility for line managing a team of travel trainers, including;
- Line management of a team of Travel Trainers, including adapting management style to accommodate supervision needs within the team.
- To deliver training to people identified as travel trainers and oversee their delivery of travel training
- Deliver one to one supervision/management of travel trainers; including completing appraisals and reviews.
- Responsibility for quality assurance through observations/spot checks and paperwork audits of Travel Trainers
- To attend training sessions as required by Pure Innovations or Local Authorities
- Liaise with Assistant Travel Training Contracts Manager to work through performance management issues
- Set individual Travel Trainers objectives and targets and monitor their performance to achieve them.
- Work with Assistant Travel Training Contracts Manager to ensure effective recruitment, induction and mentoring for new travel trainers.
- Support the delivery of accredited Travel Trainer training including the internal assessment of coursework across the organisation.
- Provide duty cover for other travel training projects as required.
3. Administration
- To undertake risk assessments for identified young people to identify and manage risks both during travel training and when they are travelling independently.
- To create a training programme for each young person and ensure that documentation is set up to record learning and progress.
- To follow a quality assurance process, to ensure travel training programmes meet the quality standards.
- To keep up to date records and reports on the progress of young people using a computer database.
- To ensure compliance with GDPR at all times.
- To ensure appropriate paperwork/correspondence is completed accurately and to deadlines.
- To take responsibility for prioritising workload and managing own time.
4. Teamwork
- To attend and contribute to regular Travel Training Project team meetings / Employment Team meetings and any other meetings as required; both within Pure Innovations and externally.
- Attend and participate in meetings and training events to develop the service or improve team or individual performance.
- To provide support and guidance to team members including travel trainers across Greater Manchester, including providing cover during absence.
- To provide guidance to colleagues across Pure Innovations regarding travel training.
- To act as a point of contact, via phone call, to Travel Trainers from early morning through to early evening.
- To cover Travel training shifts in case of any absences/sickness (7.30am 9.30am & 2.30pm 4.30pm, Mon
- Fri)
5. Other
- Understand and adhere to all policies and procedures identified at Pure Innovations Ltd and any relevant LA policy/procedures including lone and remote working policies and child protection policies.
