Why is this role important and how does it fit into the team, department and wider firm?


We have one of the strongest teams specialising in criminal and regulatory work in the Midlands and act for clients nationally.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a successful unit, supporting the development of an expanding team with the opportunity to be involved in marketing and growing the practice.


You will be expected to take on responsibility from the outset but will form part of the team with the necessary supervision, training and support to maximise your potential.


What does the role actually involve?

  • Conducting criminal prosecutions and enforcement on behalf of regulators and public sector organisations
  • Assisting such organisations in conducting prosecutions and criminal investigations including advice upon witness statements, gathering documentary evidence, interviews under caution and preparing cases for court
  • Conducting advocacy in the Magistrates Court
  • Defending regulatory investigations and prosecutions conducted by the HSE, Environment Agency, police and local authorities to cover preparing for interviews under caution, liaison with regulators, advice upon strength of evidence and plea
  • Assisting in respect of representation of corporate bodies in major Inquiries

What technical skills are required for someone to be successful and enjoy the role?

  • Advocacy experience prosecuting preferred but not essential
  • Strong academic background
  • Familiarity with IT (Microsoft Office), together with experience of relevant case management systems
  • Familiarity with online and library research facilities
Ability to master an understanding of systems and procedures with attention to detail and ability to explain and advise clients on those procedures
