The Role


The Technology Manager role will be responsible for providing leadership and delivery of a specific function, or the technical delivery of a large programme of work, within part of the MTC's Technology Group, or Industrial Sectors; see Appendix A for organisationalstructures and further details of MTC.


Duties and responsibilities include:
You will be accountable to the Group Functional Lead for the delivery of your role.

You will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues in the management teams within the Technology Group and Industrial Sectors to deliver the corporate objectivesof the MTC and ensure alignment and effective delivery of functional and business unit strategies.

You will be required to collaborate closely with colleagues in the same management team to deliver the objectives of the business unit or large project.

This requires an ability to influence people outside your line management in order to drive the best resultfor the MTC holistically and not just for a small element of the company.

The role offers the opportunity to work with senior managers to deliver the corporate objectives of MTC and to lead, or contribute to, specific business initiatives or continuous improvement activities.

In delivering the role, you will represent the MTC's and the role's interests at all internal and external meetings, as required.

There is also the need to work with MTC's Marketing Department to produce case studies and other media that demonstrate the impact that MTC is having, whilst respecting client confidentiality at all times.

Coaching and mentoring direct reports, and other colleagues as required, is an essential part of your role to support the development of leadership and management capability across the business.

You will also be responsible for your own and your colleague's health and safety, pro-actively reporting any concerns, near-misses or accidents.

Within the Technology Transformation team, the Technology Manager is also expected to deliver customer projects, acting as technical lead where appropriate


This includes:
Identification of improvement opportunities within customer manufacturing processes.
Presenting recommendations to the customer, shaping the future direction of their business.
Development and delivery of work programmes, leading Manufacturing Engineering activities.


The Person
A degree-calibre engineer, technologist, scientist or mathematician.

A range of management and leadership skills along with knowledge and experience relating directly to the delivery of this management role.

You will use this to lead the activities you are responsible for and to contribute to broader debates on the tacticaldirection of the business.


Adept at using Microsoft toolset:
Word, PowerPoint & Excel;
Manufacturing Engineering leadership experience including operations, across multiple sectors and technologies.
Significant broad experience and knowledge of manufacturing techniques and principles, including new and emerging technologies.
Demonstration of thought leadership and advanced knowledge of own speciality area.
Demonstrable knowledge of leading practical problem solving with customers and clients, using appropriate tools and techniques.
The ability to act as Technical Lead of large projects and programmes, providing technical direction and driving project quality.
Programme Management experience and record of delivering large projects on time, cost and quality.
Experience in leading the generation of viable concept solutions and subsequent process / product development.
Evidence of commercial awareness and impact of recommendations on customers and clients.
