Mitie is a UK-based facilities management and technical services company (revenue c.£3.4bn). We are one of the UK's 250 largest public companies.


Mitie /Communities (revenue £
400m) is one of the four major business divisions within Mitie, alongside Technical Services, Business Services and Central Government & Defence. At Mitie Communities we serve public sector clients in Healthcare, Education (schools and universities), local authorities and councils and emergency services. We provide our clients with both soft and hard facilities management services. Our contracts include both commercial output-specified contracts and Private Finance Initiative contracts.


Building Survey Team sits within Communities and delivers a comprehensive integrated national or international service for the evaluation of fabric and building services assets within various industries and sectors. We provide standardised and/or tailored solutions to meet the client's expectations and ensure satisfactory completion of any brief given.

Job Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Building Services Engineer is required to carry out M&E building surveys and oversee minor works projects.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Carry out building surveys and asset data collection.
  • Carry out building services feasibility assessments and complete reports.
  • Report Writing and Data Management.
  • Use of handsfree data collection methodology.
  • Project manage various M&E minor works as required.
  • Manage and forecast spend, using whole life cycle costing techniques, ensuring that work is kept budgeting and energy efficient systems are implemented.
  • Make decisions about expired systems equipment and the appropriate replacement equipment.
  • Liaise closely with other professionals, including structural engineers, builders, architects and surveyors and inhouse project teams.
  • Attend a range of project group and technical meetings.
  • Ensure building systems meets legislative and health and safety requirements.
  • Advise clients and architects on energy use and conservation in a range of buildings and sites.

Person Specification

  • The ability to work under pressure in a calm, positive way.
  • Confident, upbeat.
  • Empathy for colleagues, your clients and service users.
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Word & Excel.
  • Experience with handheld data collection a distinct advantage.
  • Comfort in a job in which involves work nationally and involves limited periods away from home.
  • Comfort with working unsociable/out of hours on occasions.
  • The ability to express your thoughts clearly, whether written or spoken.
  • Collaboration with operational and functional colleagues within Mitie Communities and across wider Mitie.
  • Evidence of experiences that have given you the Key Competencies above, whether gained through work, academic study or in the wider world and community.
