Housekeeping Assistant, Full-time, Permanent

Job summary


To assist staff in the day to day running of the Care Home and to maintain high standards of appearance, hygiene, cleanliness and service within the home for the benefit of residents, relatives, visitors and other members of staff.

Weekly hours are 5 days out of hours per day) on a shift rota basis. Daily working hours are 7.30am to 3pm. Generally, one complete weekend off in every three.

A clear security check from Disclosure Scotland and two satisfactory references are essential.


Qualifications & Skills.

  • Previous experience in a similar role preferable.
  • Genuine interest in working in a care environment.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good team player.

Responsibilities and duties


To work in accordance with the cleaning schedule for the home, ensuring that appropriate cleaning materials are used correctly and reporting changes or concerns to the senior member of staff.


  • Promote the good name of the Home.
  • Report on the general condition and cleanliness of the premises.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for residents, staff and visitors.
  • Clean rooms and public areas including furniture, fabric, carpets and equipment.
  • Clean sanitary and other equipment with particular attention to the relevant guidelines covering the control of germs and infestation.
  • Deal with waste and refuse bags in a way that is consistent with their prescribed disposal.
  • Assist with the general comfort of residents including routine tasks such as the regular provision of fresh water.
  • Assist at meal times for those residents who choose/require to have meals in their rooms.
  • Assist as required in the pantry and dining room areas.
  • Effectively communicate with residents.
  • Carry out other housekeeping/domestic duties that may be required from time to time as directed by Housekeeping Supervisor/Senior Management.
  • Report any malfunction of equipment.
  • Promote the independence and dignity of residents.
  • Follow health & safety policies for the Home, including COSHH policies and procedures.
  • Participate in any inhouse and external training identified in relation to your role.
  • Attend staff meetings as required.

Experience:


  • Domestic: 1 year (preferred)
