Main responsibilities:


  • To administer a daily attendance and punctuality check each morning following tutor / class registers.
  • Contact home by phone if students are not in school, proactively plan and contact home where student attendance may be a concern that day / week.
  • Organise all administrative tasks pertaining to lateness, staffing late arrivals in reception and followup phone calls to parents on a daily basis.
  • Maintain and manage all information systems that relate to attendance, ensure policies and procedures around the escalation of attendance concerns are clear.
  • Communicate growing concerns in a systematic manner to the Education Welfare Officer to initiate further action.
  • To meet regularly with the school Education Welfare Officer to review school data.
  • Initiating Court and fine proceedings for persistent absentees (Below 90% attendance).
  • Liaise and proactively work with Pastoral Leaders and Form Tutors about concerns they may have about poor attendance and punctuality.
  • Make and maintain contacts with parents/carers of students causing concern and work together to put strategies into place to encourage students to improve attendance and punctuality.
  • Produce attendance reports and follow up unauthorised absences on a weekly basis.
  • Inform relevant staff when correct register procedures are not followed in line with the attendance policy.
  • Produce a weekly and termly summary of attendance data for SLT, the Pastoral Leaders and staff bulletin.
  • To attend parents' evenings to support and promote excellent student attendance and punctuality.

Leadership and Management

  • Ensure all stakeholders are clear about the need for good attendance and how we can work together to support the attendance of students.
  • Take all decisions in line with the vision and values of the school, and encourage others to do the same.
  • Train and develop wider staff with regard to attendance procedures as appropriate.
  • Support and where required manage wider staff in their attendance duties as required.
Support the wider pastoral team, where requested covering duties of the Behaviour and Wellbeing Assistant or a Head of Year in the event of absence or unavailability


Working with parents/carers

  • Build positive relations with parents/carers to encourage family involvement in their child's attendance.
  • Ensure parents are clear about the need for excellent attendance and their legal obligations to ensure good attendance for their children.
  • Ensure parents and families understand the school procedures and expectations for attendance.
  • Ensure parents, families and students are aware of the support that is available from The Market Bosworth School and wider agencies (e.g Local Authority, NHS, Charities)
  • Identify, and where possible, mitigate potential barriers to attendance in partnerships with families.
  • Coordinate meetings with students and parents/carers to implement interventions and track progress.
  • Carry out home visits, where necessary, to address attendance concerns for individual students.

Liaison and Communication

  • Ensure all attendance monitoring and action taken is recorded in a clear and structured manner.
  • To ensure effective communication/consultation as appropriate with students, parents and carers.
  • To share relevant attendance and medical information with all staff about students as appropriate.
  • Inform the Pastoral team about new developments relating to school policy and follow up accordingly.
  • Inform the whole staff about attendance issues related to specific students as appropriate.
  • Provide accurate responses to parent/carer enquiries and keep accurate records.
