Description

Head of Visitor Experience

21 hours per week, 12 months fixed term maternity cover.
This is a hugely exciting opportunity to join Gloucester Cathedral as it enters a key period of development.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and highly organised individual to oversee our busy Visitor Experience function, helping to cement our position as one of the leading heritage, cultural and spiritual destinations in the Southwest.

You will oversee the depth and breadth of Visitor Experience, which includes the day-to-day running of visitor facing areas and driving of visitor income, in particular through the management of our 'Entry by Donation' approach.

You will also be responsible for the delivery of the Cathedral's marketing and communications strategy with the aim of increasing visitor numbers to 500,000, engaging with target audiences and increasing visitor income from guided tours, group visits and events.

Oversight of the Cathedral's large team of volunteers and ensuring that volunteer management best practice is implemented across roles and departments is a key aspect of this role.

We're looking for a high performing team player with great commercial awareness and an innovative approach to interpretation, engaging different audiences and improving the quality of the visitor experience.

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team you will help to deliver the Cathedral's strategic vision and will be responsible for ensuring that our welcome values are lived out on a daily basis through the way that we engage with visitors before, during and after a visit.

You'll be working closely with teams across the Cathedral - including our Operations team, Clergy, and Learning & Participation team - so the ability to form positive relationships with various stakeholders is crucial.

  • At least three years' experience of working in a heritage or visitor attractions leadership role, with a proven track record of growing income, delivering large scale events and volunteer management
  • Experience of linemanaging and leading a staff team at a senior level
  • Working knowledge of marketing and communications best practice and policy, including GDPR
  • A clear understanding of how to ensure that a world class welcome and access for all is at the heart of the Cathedral's vision and values
  • Excellent time management and the ability to balance numerous priorities and deadlines

Crucially, you will have a genuine passion for exceptional customer care and ensuring the Cathedral is a place for everyone.

In return, we offer the rewarding experience of working in a high profile, multi-faceted heritage site with a supportive team who are committed to what they do.

Opportunities like this are rare, so if you are looking for a stimulating role where no day is the same, this could be the perfect job for you.

Closing date is 9am on Thursday 14th March 2024. Interviews Wednesday 20th March
Please note that CVs are not accepted.
