UKCEH is looking for an experienced Specialist Science Lead (Digital Tools) to join our 600-strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

As Specialist Science Lead (Digital Tools), you will be a key individual in our Water Resources and Systems group at the Wallingford site, collaborating with a diverse team possessing expertise in hydrological science, project management, and environmental informatics.


You'll undertake a diverse and dynamic role collaborating with various internal and external teams, acting as the crucial connection between hydrological sciences and digital solutions, overseeing and successfully delivering a spectrum of data and digital-related projects.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Reviewing digital platforms and tools for supporting freshwater Citizen Science data collection and management within UK and EU projects
  • Managing the delivery of reports, datasets and digital tools relating to hydrological science
  • Managing staff and projects following UKCEH procedures
  • Developing ideas and opportunities for the use of data and digital technologies within hydrological science
  • Liaising with UKCEH staff and external partners and clients
For the role of Specialist Science Lead (Digital Tools), we're looking for somebody who has:

  • A strong understanding of how data and digital tools contribute to providing information and meeting user requirements.
  • Previous experience of the management of environmental or other data
  • Previous involvement in overseeing the development of digital tools.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering robust and highquality digital tools and data products
  • Experience in line management and handling significant tasks within projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams and engage with wider networks.
  • Excellent communication skills, encompassing written, webbased, and verbal communication.
  • Knowledge of best practices in data management.
  • An interest in the use of data to support robust research and evidence
  • Appreciation for the role of citizen science in contributing to research endeavours
