SoGE IT run a wide range of systems, including a 40Gb and 100Gb network, a substantial High Performance Computing Infrastructure CPU cores, and >4PB of storage, as well as virtualisation (Hyper-V), containerisation (Docker), managed using configuration management (Ansible).

Key responsibilities include design, implementation, monitoring and support of complex services.

The post holder will also contribute to, or backfill for, projects that the SoGE IT Team are managing or leading.

You will be expected to lead on developing well-managed platforms, particularly in relation to configuration management, and monitoring of systems.

You will be expected to deputise for the Head of IT in managing delivery of critical services and scientific computing support, covering absence of the Head of IT in those areas.

You will support the professional development of staff within the IT team, and staff requiring IT skills within the wider school, in particular to support junior members of the team in gaining the Linux skills they need to support projects the team is running.

You must have the knowledge, intellectual capacity, reasoning and analytical skills equivalent to those of a graduate. Demonstrable knowledge of current technologies for supporting configuration management and system monitoring is essential.

You will have proven expertise in advanced systems administration, including expertise in at least two of:
Windows Server Administration, management of network infrastructure and Linux Systems.

Experience of IT systems design, implementation, and management, with knowledge of techniques to ensure scalability, resilience, and disaster recovery is a must.

You will have excellent communications skills, including the presentation of complex technical ideas, and the production of accurate written documentation.
