  • Birmingham, Bristol, London*, and Warrington. *For London based roles your contractual place of work will be Endeavour Square, Stratford. However, as that site will not be operational until early 2025 in the interim period you will be required to carry out your contractual duties from Spring Gardens, Vauxhall or such other reasonable location. As your contractual place of work is Endeavour Square, your move to this location in 2025 will not give rise to any entitlement to payments for travel time or costs under the Relocation and Excess Travel Policy.

Job summary:


As part of the NCA's Strategy Directorate, the Communications team plays a vital role in promoting and supporting NCA activity.

We use our communications channels as an operational tool to disrupt serious and organised crime.

We tell our story effectively, examining what we do as an agency, explaining why it is important and supporting the overall objective to lead the UK's fight against serious and organised crime.


The Communications Team works closely with media outlets and partners across the UK to land our messages to our target audience.

The team have also delivered a variety of high-profile campaigns resulting in the capture of fugitives and the safeguarding of vulnerable people, as well as building a community of followers who continue to support the agency and our messaging.


Our strategic communications team is a key part of the organisation, supporting the delivery of all of our communications with insights, evaluation and horizon scanning.

Our campaigns help deliver agency priorities with the aim to raise awareness, change behaviour, or prevent and disrupt serious and organised crime.


Job description:

The Senior Strategic Communications Officer role provides an exciting opportunity to join the NCA's high performing Communication team.


Using your skills as a professional communicator you will support the delivery of the NCA's wider communication strategy and work on strategic communications and marketing campaigns to build the public's confidence in the NCA's work and disrupt criminals engaged in serious organized crime.


Reporting to a Strategic Communications Manager, you will be working with communication and policy colleagues from across and outside the organisation, to ensure we are engaging people with consistent and clear messages across our earned, paid and owned channels.


To be considered, you will need to successfully complete SC Enhanced clearance before commencing the role

Person specification:


We are looking for a strong strategic communications professional who can:

  • Respond efficiently and effectively to communications commissions from senior leadership
  • Commission insights/research and use to identify audiences and interpret data to develop highly targeted campaign and marketing strategies, using the GCS OASIS framework
  • Develop key performance indicators for campaigns to optimise activity, measure success and deliver return on investment
  • Commission creative development of campaign materials to inhouse teams or external suppliers
  • Horizon scan and drive strategic ideas demonstrating an understanding of the bigger policy picture and emerging sociopolitical trends
  • Build strong working relationships with policy teams to ensure that business objectives are translated into campaign objectives
  • Influence and engage at all levels and work with a wide range of stakeholders across the NCA and Whitehall to ensure project delivery
  • Manage the procurement of external suppliers and agencies from brief, through to pitch, evaluation and appointment
  • Manage and track campaign budget and plans, ensuring that activity is delivered on time and to budget
  • Line manage a G5 Communications Manager as necessary
  • Support with the development of branded goods such as banners and merchandise
  • Support the Head of Strategic Communications with any other communications related tasks
