The purpose of the job is to support and assist the Payroll Team with the preparation of the payroll for Wye Valley NHS Trust


To assist (and once training is completed) be responsible for processing accurate and timely payments for an allocated section of payroll, ensuring that the correct authority has been obtained and all deadlines achieved.

Recruited as a Band 3, after two years this will progress to a Band 4.

To assist (and once training is completed) be responsible for processing accurate and timely payments for an allocated section of payroll, ensuring that the correct authority has been obtained and all deadlines achieved.


Plan, organize and complete own work schedule within the framework of the payroll deadlines and submission timetables to provide an efficient and effective service.


Update and maintain the NHS ESR system ensuring the accurate and timely completion of all permanent changes to employee records.

Implement pay awards including the calculation of arrears where appropriate

Complete routine and complex calculations relating to pay


Process and input data from time sheets and turnround documents checking the validity of the information submitted and ensuring that all payments made are duly authorized and in accordance with statutory legislation and the appropriate terms and conditions of service.

Process reports from the data held in E-Rostering system; notify department managers for verification. Analysis of payroll Roster reports and an understanding is required to ensure that queries can be dealt with effectively.

Ensure that processing and calculating tax, national insurance, pension, sick pay, maternity and paternity pay is accurate and complies with statutory and organizational requirements
