Role and Responsibilities


To survey rail lines, document the work required. To ensure this work is delivered safely, within stipulated time frames, to the required standard and at an acceptable cost.

Your responsibilities will include:

1. Health & Safety

  • To work within the guidelines of the Hi-Line Health & Safety Policy at all times
  • To work according to Network Rail Life Saving Rules.
  • To complete the Risk Assessment as fully as possible and highlight any potential risks.
  • To ensure you phone in your location details to the office in line with locations procedures

2. Work Management

  • To have a full understanding of all paperwork associated with surveying and to complete this paperwork to the required standard
  • To plan your work in order to achieve the required surveyed areas and meet targets set
  • To maintain communication with your manager to discuss progress you are making and to advise of any issues that have arisen
  • When necessary to discuss with your manager any specific problems which may affect your progress

3. Performance Management

  • To understand and meet performance targets set
  • To communicate with your manager regarding any feedback given on the survey paperwork
  • To ensure that you identify any separately chargeable items if applicable

4. Permissioning

  • To use your arboricultural and railway knowledge to accurately complete all surveys, to document the proposed tree surgery and the possible H&S implications of not doing the work.
  • To use your knowledge and judgement as to the best way of achieving the required result depending on all outside factors
  • To develop good relationships with any third parties

5. Environmental

  • To ensure that you have a good understanding of environmental legislation, considerations and practices.
  • To liaise with Hi-Line's ecology department or third parties where necessary regarding environmental matters
  • To ensure that you complete any required Environmental Risk Assessment to highly any environmental issues

6. Vehicles

  • To ensure that your vehicle is safe, well maintained and fit for purpose and that you drive responsibly at all times
  • To carry out your daily vehicle checks as per Hi-Line policy
  • To ensure your vehicle is kept clean and tidy inside and out
  • To drive with due care and attention at all times and to report any incidents immediately in line with company procedures
  • To ensure all defects are reported in line with company procedures

7. Paperwork

  • To ensure that all paperwork is correctly, tidily, accurately and diligently completed and submitted promptly
  • To ensure all survey forms and any accompanying paperwork are completed to a high standard to provide maximum support, guidance and information
  • To ensure that timesheets and vehicle sheets are accurate and submitted to your Manager on time each week

8. Corporate Image

  • To ensure you maintain a professional appearance at all times, wearing Hi-Line branded clothing and carrying your client ID at all times
  • To communicate with all clients and colleagues in a polite, professional and friendly way at all times
  • To drive with care, courtesy and attention at all times
  • Vehicle/Equipment Cleanliness as covered above

9. Hi-Line Company Policies

  • Working in line with Hi-Line Policies including, but not limited to, the Health & Safety Policy and Asset Operating Policy.

10. Sundry

  • Attending meetings and training where required
  • To liaise with Hi-Line employees and Managers, landowners, clients, other service providers in a polite, courteous and helpful way
  • To carry out other duties as required by the Company
  • To attend training courses where required
Essential Requirements
The post holder will be required to have the following:

  • Level 3 Arboriculture qualification
  • PTS and IWA qualifications
  • Experience of working in DCCR
  • Good understanding of the Sentinel system & how to use the app
  • Good knowledge of using track locator
  • A full UK driving licence
  • Eligibility to work within the UK
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Good IT skills
  • Good knowledge of Health & Safety regulations
  • Excellent communication skills
  • First aid, use of mapping systems and Otis software would be desirable
  • Recent D&A medical (within the last three months) would be an advantage
  • Be familiar with using the EPIC app (on trac system)

£24,000.00-£32,000.00 per year
