UKI Photo Assignment Editor - Reuters

This hybrid role will be based from our London newsroom in Canary Wharf.

Reuters is looking for a Photo Assignment Editor to help assign and coordinate our photo coverage in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

In this new role, you'll work closely with the Chief Photographer and the entire bureau to ensure that all the news of interest to Reuters editorial customers is covered in a timely manner, delivered ahead of our competitors and conforms to Reuters' standards of quality and ethics.

You'll be crucial to how we react to breaking news and will ensure we have the right people in the right places at the right time.

The role will involve the planning and coordination of both breaking news and coverage of events we've planned for months in advance.

About the Role

As our trusted
Photo Assignment Editor, you will**:

  • Monitor local media and the day-to-day news schedules across the UK and Ireland, assigning photographers throughout each day and ensuring that our Newsplanner is up to date with coverage plans.
  • Maintain and update the longterm schedules for Reuters photographers and contractors.
  • Perform advance planning and booking of travel for all the events covered, in coordination with the UKI Chief Photographer and the Europe Picture Editor.
  • Secure credentialed access in a timely manner and work closely on a daily basis with all assets of the UKI bureau to assure quality multimedia coverage.
  • Discuss ideas with peers in the UKI bureau to identify stories that will give our product more value. You'll also network with local organizations (including government institutions) and maintain good relations to secure access.
  • Liaise with the Global Picture Desk for live editing of breaking news coverage and assist the Action Images counterpart in scheduling Reuters photographer to sport coverage.

About You
You're a fit for the role of
Photo Assignment Editor if your background includes:

  • Demonstrable experience in photojournalism and/or newsgathering.
  • A strong interest in news photography and passion for news coverage. With this, you'll ideally bring a working knowledge of how media clients use it.
  • The ability to remain calm under pressure and work well with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience of working in a collaborative environment. We're team players at Reuters and are looking for someone likeminded in this respect.
  • A flexible approach to managing news. At times (i.e. during periods of breaking news), you will be required to work weekends and unsociable hours.

You will join our inclusive culture of world-class talent, where we are committed to your personal and professional growth through:
