Job description:


The uniformed civilians of the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) are professional qualified seafarers, trained and educated to recognised international maritime standards and deliver worldwide logistics and operational support to Royal Navy military operations.

Fully integrated into front-line warships, the RFA is an essential element of how the Royal Navy operates with freedom around the globe.

The RFA supports a wide spectrum of operations from high-tempo war fighting to counter piracy, disaster relief, counter narcotics, law enforcement and evacuation operations.

There are several fantastic new opportunities to join our expanding, empowered, valued and invested RFA People team.

We are seeking a people-focused professional with an eye for detail and excellent verbal communication skills to join us at an exciting time where you will have the opportunity to shape and develop an evolving new position, to
- decide and authorise personnel options at short notice with the RFA Operational Capability Team in response to emergency changes in availability, assignment, schedule or priorities when no clear solution is available to the RFA Career Managers
- be the initial authorising person enabling the Career Managers to conduct the responsibilities of Line Manager when individual Seafarers are not assigned to a platform, training establishment, course or activity where a Line Manager or Divisional Officer is provided
- be the Training and Line Manager of the Career Managers, including responsibility for designing/maintaining/delivering induction packages to new team members.
- support and enable Career Managers to proactively identify and schedule appropriate opportunities across their cadres
- action appropriate intervention across all Assignment functions, including recording of Concessionary Billets and authorisation of non-standard practise temporary acting positions / approval of non-standard leave
- enable non-boundary working between Career Managers and the Promotions, Development and Advancements Team
- work with Head of RFA People Ops and the Case Work Change Team to to ensure the Career Managers access the appropriate training, policy and process to support timely and pragmatic resolution of case work
- partner with the People Analytics Team to produce and respond to accurate resource and capability data including forecasting and identifying/planning for any effect on the capability requirement, schedule and process.
- proactively seek out ways to improve, digitise, automate and integrate our HR admin processes within an agile Whole Force Royal Navy.

We are seeking a confident, autonomous individual who would like to shape and influence change and who is excited to work with a degree of flexibility and ambiguity as the team develops


Essential:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Managing complex and conflicting priorities
  • Leading a team
Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of Royal Fleet Auxiliary and its working practices
  • Previous experience of working within an HR or People team
  • Working experience of HR systems
  • MyHR, Magellan, JPA, Oracle, OneView


Hybrid working (a blend of working in the workplace and remotely) is encouraged, and individual arrangements are by agreement with the Line Manager.

If you are successful, hybrid working will be discussed with you prior to taking up post.
