Are you an experienced, hands-on digital magazine editor, keen to play a leading role on one of the energy industry's most respected titles?:


  • Can you lead a small, cohesive team delivering insightful weekly news, comment and feature content, and increase reach through creative marketing approaches?:

And, crucially, are you familiar with and passionate about the global energy transition?


We're looking for a new Senior Editor to lead our friendly editorial team to deliver engaging, thought-provoking, science/evidence-based and technology-inclusive content for the Energy Institute's weekly online magazine, _New Energy World_.


What you'll do:

Responsible for producing insightful and engaging digital content each week for _New Energy World_*
  • Determine the strategic direction of the digital magazine, working closely with the editorial team.
  • Work closely with the Features Editor and EditoratLarge to identify and cover topics across the global energy system, showing its interconnected nature and its transition towards net zero, by commissioning both freelance and industry writers to produce Comment and Feature articles.
  • Manage workflow, assign articles to the Features Editor, EditoratLarge and yourself to edit and prepare content for online publication.
  • Alongside Executive Editor, agree final selection of latest industry stories for publication in each issue with support from the Executive Editor.
  • Research, develop and occasionally write engaging and thoughtprovoking content for online delivery.
  • Agree with the EditoratLarge the content of the quarterly printed magazine and support the Executive Editor with its production.

Take a data-driven, creative approach to building _New Energy World_
's readership

  • Track, monitor and analyse data to ensure editorial content reaches and engages its audience, and is tailored to build traffic volume.

Lead the editorial team and ensure _New Energy World_
is connected into the wider Energy Institute

  • Lead, develop and line manage the editorial team.
  • Strategic budgetary oversight for the magazine, supported by the Executive Editor.
  • Provide back up support, particularly uploading content to content management system, during any team absences.
  • Represent the magazine at internal staff and external stakeholder events.
  • Work closely with the business development, marketing, events, technical, knowledge and other teams to realise crosscontent and revenue generating opportunities as part of the Energy Institute's endtoend offering.

Who we are looking for:


  • An experienced editor with energy sector knowledge, familiar with industry trends and ideally with some relevant contacts for writers covering technical topics and energy strategy on an international basis
  • Recognition of the challenges and opportunities the global energy system faces as it transitions to net zero, and that a range of different technologies will be needed to deliver energy and this change at pace
  • Demonstrable experience and flair for editing online articles
  • Experience managing a predominantly remote working team
  • Proficient at working to tight deadlines and balancing multiple ongoing projects (_New Energy World _is a weekly publication with a quarterly printed version)
  • Science, environment or energy background
  • Digital expertise, familiar with content and project management systems
  • Proficient at digital marketing, both through paid methods (such as Google Ads) and social media savvy with experience of building and nurturing communications on platforms such as LinkedIn and Tweets
  • Comfortable networking and building industry connections
  • Excellent grasp of SEO and analytics to help build and engage new audience
  • Adept at writing analytical articles and other copy for digital publications
  • Open to and ready to lead on new formats for online delivery and promotion
  • Dynamic, agile and selfmotivated
