As a Head of Central Strategy and Planning you will join us on our journey and undertake a truly valuable and highly visible role responsible for shaping and driving central strategy and planning across Post Office Ltd.

You will help us build clarity around our business's long-term trajectory and serve as the day-to-day lead in a range of interesting and challenging areas.

The role exists to ensure there is appropriate focus on all these activities, which contribute directly to the ambitions of senior management, as well as the successful delivery of the business's long-term priorities.


The role has a particular focus on funding and policy, but it also includes leading or managing a wider range of strategic projects undertaken within the Strategy and Transformation function.

You will be accountable as day-to-day lead for central strategy and planning, driving strategic thinking across the business, working with stakeholders to build a clear long-term vision for POL and managing key work that supports POL's future.

This includes discussions with HMG on their policy for Post Office Ltd.'s and our funding, wider strategic and policy projects, and strategic communications.

You will also be the regular liaison with HMG officials and work closely with the Group Executive and Board as required.


What you'll need to succeed:

- a strategic thinker, able to see the bigger picture, synthesize complex issues and work across teams to find the right way to solve and navigate challenging problems.
- inquisitive and entrepreneurial, able to challenge established thinking proactively and know how to direct interest in a way that draws out risks and opportunities.
- an effective communicator with strong written and verbal skills, who can clearly and concisely convey information to audiences of varying levels of seniority and expertise.
- able to build relationships and has highly effective interpersonal skills, to build rapport with, as well as consult, advise and exert influence on others.
- experienced at stakeholder management and can understand others' perspectives and influence with and without direct control, inside and outside Post Office Ltd.
- independent and able to work independently as well as deliver agreed outcomes to time and quality, including managing upwards effectively.
- able to demonstrate a grounding in public policy and a knowledge of Government, and to draw on qualitative and quantitative analysis to define policy outcomes.
- experienced at leading cross-functional teams, can manage projects and coordinate and collaborate effectively.
- effective at time management with solid organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure and to prioritise effectively.
