Cook 24 Caretaker


The role of Caretaker plays a vital part to ensure the smooth and efficient day to day operation of the Cook 24 Hub in order to provide our learners and staff with the best possible learning environment to fulfil their potential.

Caretakers are an integral part of the college team, providing a valued support service.

It is a demanding and physical role with a significant amount of time spent actively walking around buildings and the sites.


The position of Caretaker in Coleg Sir Gâr offers an interesting and varied role for a person who has the appropriate skills, enthusiasm, flexibility and a positive approach to work.


Key Responsibilities

  • As the Cook 24 Caretaker you will be responsible for supporting the project coordinator with the safe operation and upkeep of our Cook 24 Hub
  • You would be expected to open and close up the on a daily basis as a key holder
  • Ensure all minor maintenance tasks are completed within the building conducting minor repairs when needed
  • Move furniture, supplies, deliveries etc when called upon
  • Maintain safe conditions and safe working practices within the buildings and adhere to the colleges and statutory health and safety procedures and policies
  • Working as part of a team and on your own initiative is essential, with a good service ethos and a can do, proactive, energetic attitude towards your work and people is a must
  • Support in ensuring that the environment is safe and clean for all activities

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential Criteria:


  • Appropriate trade or relevant experience
  • First Aid qualification (If you are not First Aid qualified, you will be expected to undertake training as soon as possible)
  • Ability to organise and plan work as allocated
  • Previous experience of maintenance and repair work
  • IT Literate and confident in the use of IT systems and mobile devices
  • Good analytical skills
  • High degree of selfmotivation
  • Diplomacy and tact
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions
  • Ability to produce work of high quality
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to display confidence and establish positive relationships
  • Approachable, flexible and professional manner
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team

Desirable Criteria:


  • GCSE English and Mathematics at minimum Grade C or O Level equivalent

Welsh Language Requirements:


  • Welsh Oracy (Listening/Speaking)

  • Level 0/1
