The purpose of this role is to lead a rich, varied curriculum offer and inspire support, teaching and learning with learners at foundation level (below Level 2) across two centres and provide outstanding outcomes for them.

That these learners acquire the important foundation blocks to be able to successfully progress to Level 2 courses and programmes.


The post-holder will be a part of a small team of heads of department across two directorates, led by an Assistant Principal.

You will be accountable for the success of foundation learners studying construction trades, building services, motor vehicle and fabrication and welding.

Success will be measured by good or better teaching and learning, high levels of attendance and engagement, positive behaviour, excellent learner feedback and very high levels of progression to further study at Level 2.


The post-holder will work with other heads of department across the construction and engineering directorates, including English and maths leads, to continually improve the curriculum, raise the levels of learners' positive engagement and achievement and share best practice.

The post-holder will line-manage a team comprising teachers, trainers and youth workers.
