Salary:
£22,662 - £25,642 per annum (starting salary will be £22,662)


Full-time, permanent appointment

Based in Liverpool


A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and dedicated Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Department of Clinical Sciences on a full-time, permanent basis.

As the first institution of its kind in the world, dedicated to education and research in tropical diseases, it's an exciting time to join LSTM as we enter our 125th anniversary year in 2023.


Background


The Clinical Diagnostic Parasitology Laboratory at LSTM offers a UKAS accredited nationwide diagnostic parasitology service for all specimens of human origin.

The scope of the service is wide, diagnosing human parasitic diseases using microscopical, serological and molecular techniques.

The Laboratory undertakes a range of diagnostic testing, adhering to ISO15189 standard, to provide accurate, timely results to assist clinical diagnosis.


The role

Key Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Manning specimen reception, adhering to local specimen reception protocol
  • Data input onto patient database
  • Preparation of samples for microscopy
  • Extraction of DNA for molecular diagnostic techniques
  • Adhere to protocols for the use of electrical equipment and archiving of samples
  • Assist manager with data analysis for reporting purposes
  • Perform all work in accordance with departmental SOP's
  • Qualified to GCSE level, or equivalent
  • Experience in a clinical laboratory setting (desirable)
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft office (outlook, word, excel)
  • Experience of patient database systems for storage of data (desirable)
  • Ability to adhere to local procedures such as Risk assessments and SOP's
  • Adherence to patient confidentiality and GDPR regulations
