This is an exciting opportunity to join the Clinical Genetics department at the City.

As part of a team you will be responsible for the audio typing and transcription of clinical correspondence.

You will be a conscientious and enthusiastic team player with excellent organisational and communication skills with a good understanding of current NHS 18 week referral to treatment.

You will need to be able to demonstrate a clear understanding of confidentiality issues, be well motivated and reliable.

You will be able to understand and accurately convey verbal and written information and be able to remain calm under pressure.

Main duties of the job

Ensure all clinical correspondence is typed and processed within specified timescales. Completing or escalating actions as required.

You will need to be a fast and accurate audio typist with a sound knowledge of medical terminology. You will also be able to prioritise your workload with constantly changing demands, to meet agreed deadlines.

Use your own initiative and respond to queries within and outside of the Organisation with a professional manner to patients, relatives and staff.

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Clinical Genetics team, within Reproductive Health.

You will part of a team responsible for the audio typing and transcription of clinical correspondence and will work closely with the current admin.


You must have RSA III word processing or equivalent experience, be educated to GCSE standard and have experience in the use of computer systems including Microsoft packages, Winscribe, Medway PAS, and NOTIS.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Accurately transcribing from Winscribe digital dictation and Winscribe Speech Recognition digital dictation, outpatient clinic letters and miscellaneous clinical correspondence to a high standard with specified timescales, there will be some outcoming of appointments on a daily basis

Responsible for the production of clinical papers and material for publication from either audio or copy typing.

Use judgement and initiative to prioritise the importance/urgency of particular requests within defined guidelines

Undertake daily peer audit of clinical correspondence to ensure a high standard of accuracy and quality of work.

Ability to exchange sensitive or contentious information with diplomacy and in a confidential manner.

Training & Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • RSA III word processing or equivalent experience
  • 3 GCSE's or equivalent C or above must include English
  • Computer literate to ECDL standard or equivalent.
Experience

  • Proven typing and admin experience
Desirable criteria

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS and experience using MS Office, Medway PAS and Notis.

The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
